Network monitoring views can be recorded, replayed and shared. A monitoring system receives monitoring data, in response to which a monitoring view can be constructed. The monitoring data is maintained in memory or mass storage. One or more monitoring views can later be constructed in response to user preferences, even if those users would not have known to select those particular preferences or construct those particular monitoring views at the time. The monitoring views constructed in response to that monitoring data can be presented to users in a simulation of the problem, as if it were occurring at that time. Users can send particular monitoring views to others, with both the effects that the monitoring view can be preserved as part of a trouble report, and the persons receiving the monitoring view can have useful insight into what problem the user has pointed to.

Recording, replay, and sharing of live network monitoring views

Methods, apparatuses and systems directed to, or facilitating, the graphical display of status information in wireless network management systems. In one implementation, the present invention provides a graphical user interface that allows a network administrator to readily ascertain the overall status of a wireless network, and quickly identify the network element(s) within the network that are associated with any potential problem or condition. In another implementation, the present invention provides a graphical user interface that provides status icons that efficiently convey status information for corresponding access points. In another implementation, the present invention provides a hierarchical network model that facilitates network data management, configuration and display tasks associated with wireless network management systems.

Graphical display of status information in a wireless network management system

A display apparatus has a display unit for displaying, on a display screen, a display image containing a time axis formed so as to extend at least in a first direction. The display apparatus also has an input operation device for physically moving at least the time axis in the first direction. The display apparatus further has a controlling device for controlling the display screen based on an operational input given by an operation of the input operation device. The input operation device includes a rotational operating unit having an axis of rotation extending in second directions which cross the first direction. The rotational operating unit is arranged such that a rotational operation of the rotational operation unit by a first physical amount causes a physical movement of at least the time axis by a second physical amount corresponding to the first physical amount.

Display apparatus and portable information processing apparatus

A display apparatus has a communication unit which performs at least receiving of a plurality of pieces of display data. The display apparatus also has first storage device for storing received plurality of pieces of display data. The display apparatus further has a second storage unit for storing at least one piece of first icon information corresponding to at least one of the pieces of display data and at least one piece of second icon information of a display form different from that of the first icon information. The display apparatus further has a display unit for displaying, on a menu screen, at least one of the first icon information and the second icon information. The display apparatus further has a control unit for selecting the first icon information or the second icon information based on the number of pieces of display data newly registered in the first storage unit and for controlling the displaying unit so that the selected icon information is displayed on the menu screen.

The menu displays of a base-station device and its data-correlated, portable device are managed. In the base-station device, first icon information corresponding to the menu is displayed on a first display screen. In the portable device, second icon information (corresponding to the first) is displayed on a second display screen. The base-station device has a first storage unit for storing the first icon information, a first display control unit for controlling a first display unit, and a first communication unit for communicating with the portable device. The portable device has a second storage unit for storing the second icon information, a second display control unit for controlling a second display unit, and a second communication unit for communicating with the base-station device and for matching pieces of display data stored in the first and second storage units. Thus, the size of the second icon information is maintained smaller than the size of the first.

A display device including a display unit for displaying, on a menu screen, a plurality of types of information including first through N-th information having different attributes; a storage unit for storing first through N-th background screen character data for presenting first through N-th background display areas that respectively display icon information corresponding to the first through N-th information, and first through N-th icon information corresponding to the first and N-th information; and a control unit for performing control to create the first through N-th background display areas on the menu screen on an area by area basis, based on the first through N-th background screen character data, and to display the icon information on an area by area basis.
