Poly(arylene sulfide/sulfone) polymers are treated in order to increase melt stability and decrease impurities by contacting the poly(arylene sulfide/sulfone) polymer with a soluble zinc compound and an acidic solution. In one embodiment, the polymer is treated first with the soluble zinc compound, followed by treatment with the acidic solution. In another embodiment, the polymer is treated in one step with a solution comprising a water soluble zinc compound in an acidic solution.

A composition of matter comprises trifluoromethanesulfonic acid on a solid support material which contains boron phosphate and/or boron sulfate. Preferred support materials are boron phosphate, boron phosphate-coated silica and boron sulfate-coated silica. The present invention relates to glass filled poly(arylene sulfide) molding compositions which upon being molded result in products having improved mechanical properties. Methods of preparing the compositions, methods of using the compositions to form molded products and the molded products so produced are also provided. The compositions are comprised of poly(arylene sulfide) resin, glass reinforcement material, an epoxysilane and an organic phosphite.

Glass filled poly(arylene sulfide) compositions and methods

Poly(arylene sulfide) composition

A poly(arylene sulfide) coating composition, method of preparing the composition, and method of coating are disclosed. The composition comprises a finely-divided poly(arylene sulfide) having from about 75 to about 99 mole percent para-polymerized aromatic units and from about 1 to about 25 mole percent ortho- or meta- polymerized aromatic units and, optionally, from about 0.1 to about 2 mole percent trifunctionally-polymerization aromatic units. The coating resin can be prepared in a polymerization reaction medium containing a molar excess of base, with respect to sulfur present, and can be washed with water at at least about 100.degree. C. to lower the curing temperature of the coating composition. The compositions are particularly suited for application in which curing temperatures of 350.degree. C. or lower are desired.
