A faced fibrous insulation having a mat facing on one or more surfaces of a fibrous insulation material is provided. The mat facing provides improved surface quality, high and controlled adhesion, and is easily manufactured. The mat facing of the present invention includes a pre-applied adhesive that is heat activated to provide adhesion to the fibrous insulation. The mat facing may be input into the glass fiber forming section of a fibrous insulation production line. Alternatively, the mat facing may be applied to the uncured pack prior to curing or applied to the cured fibrous insulation.

Faced fibrous insulation

An insulated duct-wrap insulating product for an air duct that incorporates a wicking media to transport condensed water on the duct surface to be evaporated into the atmosphere. A wicking fabric, or fibrous media, incorporated as part of the insulating duct wrap is in contact with the metal air duct surface. A portion of the wicking fabric extends into the interior of the air duct, typically through joints in the duct system. When water vapor condenses on the air duct surface it is transported by the wicking fabric and evaporated from the wick surface within the air stream being transported by the ducting system.

A vacuum packaged conformable insulation assembly may be installed in a cavity before the vacuum in the insulation assembly is released. The insulation assembly includes a compressible batt of mineral fibers such as fibrous glass wool. During manufacture, the batt is encased in a gas-impervious envelope. The envelope is vacuum-sealed to retain the batt in a compressed state. The envelope may be provided with opening structures for selectively releasing the vacuum in the envelope. The envelope is sufficiently large to permit the batt contained therein to fully recover when the vacuum is released. According to a method of the present invention, the envelope is placed in a cavity to be insulated, and then the envelope is ruptured to allow the batt to expand to cause the insulation assembly to conform to the cavity.

Vacuum packaged batt

A method for applying adhesive on a porous substrate with improved bonding between the adhesive and the substrate. The adhesive is applied on a surface of the substrate. The applied adhesive is impinged with a fluid such as air to force a first portion of the adhesive to flow and penetrate the substrate while a second portion of the adhesive remains on the surface.

A method of and apparatus for damping vibration such as sound in a vibration generating device such as an appliance. A constraining layer and an adhering layer are provided. The adhering layer including a viscosity enhancing material such as a cellulose fiber, and an adhesive material. The constraining layer is adhered to a surface of an device with the adhering layer.

Vibration damping system

Our unique process applies pressure sensitive hot melt adhesive to fiberglass insulation with improved adhesion to the insulation surface and the adjoining substrate. As opposed to the typical spray or bead extrusion methods, the preferred embodiment applies a ribbon of adhesive to the blanket and pulls it into the insulating glass with a vacuum. The adhesive penetrates the glass and becomes an integral part of the insulating blanket.

An insulation product comprises an elongated blanket of fibrous insulation material having a facing on one major surface, the facing extending beyond the edges of the blanket to form opposed flanges, the flanges having first reinforcement fibers extending longitudinally along the outer edge zones of the flanges, and the flanges having intermediate zones positioned inwardly of the outer edge zones, and provided with second reinforcement fibers of a lesser density so as to provide a visual indication of the boundary between the outer edge zones and the intermediate zones of the flanges.

A lid opener for accommodating wide and narrow rim lids, especially lids with an outwardly extending skirt portion which is crimped or curled over to form a reinforcing bead. The opener includes a strap loop attached to one or both ends to a handle. The strap is adapted to encircle the lid and be cinched thereagainst by the handle to apply a leveraged turning force to open the lid.
