An electrical penetrator assembly has a ceramic housing with a through bore, a first electrical conductor extending through at least part of the bore and terminating and having an outer end outside the bore and a second end, and a second electrical conductor having a first end in electrical communication with the second end of the first conductor and an outer end. The second end of the first conductor and the first end of the second conductor are in electrical communication and at least one of the conductors is movable relative to the other conductor to accommodate expansion and contraction as a result of temperature variations, and first and second seals extend between respective ends of the ceramic housing and the first and second conductor, respectively.

Electrical penetrator assembly

Each feed-through pin of a multiple-phase, high voltage plug-pin connector comprises at least one conductor having a first insulation layer extending along at least part of its length, the insulation layer having an enlarged, load-bearing portion of non-circular cross-section having oppositely directed projections, configured for engagement in a correspondingly shaped bore portion of the connector shell. The load-bearing portions may be of a rhomboidal cross sectional shape with rounded corners, with a first diagonal length shorter than a second diagonal length. The pins are spaced around the central longitudinal axis of the shell with the shorter diagonal of each load-bearing portion extending radially and the oppositely directed projections extending into the radial spaces in the shell between adjacent pins. This arrangement allows space within a limited diameter feed through hole for the enlarged, load-bearing shoulder portions of the insulation layer.

High temperature, high pressure subsea electrical connector system

An electrical penetrator assembly has a ceramic housing with a through bore, a first electrical conductor extending through a first end of the bore and terminating short of a second end of the bore and having an outer end engageable with a first cable, and a second electrical conductor extending through a second end of the bore and terminating short of the first end of the bore, the second conductor having an outer end engageable with a second cable. The conductors are in electrical communication at their inner ends and at least one of the conductors is movable relative to the other conductor to accommodate expansion and contraction as a result of temperature variations, and first and second seals extend between respective ends of the ceramic housing and the first and second conductor, respectively.

A multiple layer conductor pin for a harsh environment connector or penetrator has a conductive shaft, an outer layer of non-conductive, insulating material extending along at least part of the length of the shaft, and an intermediate layer of conductive or semi-conductive material sandwiched between the outer layer and conductive shaft and bonded substantially void-free to the outer insulating layer.

Multiple layer conductor pin for electrical connector and method of manufacture

A submersible connector has releasably mateable plug and receptacle units. The plug unit has at least one electrical pin while the receptacle unit has at least one electrical socket module which receives a forward portion of the electrical pin when the units are mated. The pin is surrounded by semi-conductive seals and a conductive housing, while the socket module has a semi-conductive outer layer, and front seals of semi-conductive material on the pin and socket modules are in sealing engagement in the mated condition, isolating the pins from sea water exposure and forming a ground plane continuation at least from receptacle to plug in the mated condition and providing shielding from phase to phase interaction in a multiple pin and socket connector.

Wet mate connector

An electrical connector may include a connector body having a passageway therethrough. The connector body may include a first layer adjacent the passageway, a second layer surrounding the first layer and comprising an insulative silicone elastomeric material, and a third layer surrounding the second layer. The third layer preferably has a relatively low resistivity, and may also include a semiconductive silicone elastomeric material. In some embodiments, the first layer may also include a semiconductive silicone elastomeric material. The silicone elastomeric material layers may be overmolded.

Electrical connector including silicone elastomeric material and associated methods

A loadbreak electrical connector may include a housing having first and second intersecting passageways therein, and a conductive member to be received in the first passageway. The conductive member may have a first end to receive a cable end, and have a transverse internally threaded opening adjacent a second end thereof accessible via the second passageway. A loadbreak probe may be received in the second passageway and have an externally threaded end for threading into the threaded opening. The threaded end of the loadbreak probe may include a proximal portion and a bullnose tip connected thereto, or a self-aligning anti cross-threading tip.

Loadbreaking electrical connector probe with enhanced threading and related methods

An electrical connector may include a conductive body having a conductor receiving passageway therein to receive the conductor of a cable end. The conductive body may also have a fastener receiving passageway intersecting the conductor receiving passageway, and a fastener may be positioned in the fastener receiving passageway for securing the conductor. The connector may also include an insulating boot associated with the conductor receiving passageway. The insulating boot may include an insulating tube, and at least one rupturable seal closing the insulating tube and rupturing upon initial insertion of the cable end therethrough. The rupturable seal may also be compliant to accommodate different sized cable ends and form a seal with adjacent portions of the cable end. A pair of seals may be provided with an optional sealant material therebetween.

Connector insulating boot for different sized conductors and associated methods

An electrical connector for electrical cables may include an electrically conductive body, a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) insulating cover, and windows aligned with cable end viewing openings in the conductive body. The electrically conductive body may have spaced apart cable-receiving passageways for receiving respective electrical cable ends therein, and with each cable-receiving passageway having a cable inlet opening and a cable end viewing opening opposite the cable inlet opening. The electrically conductive body may also have at least one respective fastener-receiving passageway intersecting each of the cable-receiving passageways. A respective fastener may be provided in each of the fastener-receiving passageways. The windows provide a cover and permit visual confirmation of proper placement of the electrical cable end within a corresponding one of the cable-receiving passageways.

Electrical connector including viewing windows and associated methods

An electrical connector includes a respective removable fastener inlet closure cap for each tubular fastener inlet, and a respective flexible tether having a proximal end removably connected adjacent a corresponding tubular fastener inlet and a distal end integrally molded with a corresponding removable fastener inlet closure cap. The connector may include an electrically conductive body having spaced apart cable-receiving passageways for receiving respective electrical cable ends therein, with each cable-receiving passageway having a cable inlet opening. The electrically conductive body may also have at least one respective fastener-receiving passageway intersecting each of the cable-receiving passageways. The connector may also include an insulating cover on the electrically conductive body and including a respective integrally molded tubular fastener inlet aligned with each of the fastener-receiving openings.

Loadbreak electrical connector probe with enhanced threading and related methods

An electrical connector may include a connector body having a passageway therethrough. The connector body may include a first layer adjacent the passageway, a second layer surrounding the first layer and comprising an insulative silicone elastomeric material, and a third layer surrounding the second layer. The third layer preferably has a relatively low resistivity, and may also include a semiconductive silicone elastomeric material. In some embodiments, the first layer may also include a semiconductive silicone elastomeric material. The silicone elastomeric material layers may be overmolded to thereby increase production speed and efficiency thereby lowering production costs. The silicone elastomeric material may also provide excellent electrical performance and other advantages.

A connector body may have a passageway therethrough and may include a first layer adjacent the passageway and having a relatively low resistivity, a second layer surrounding the first layer and including a material having a relatively high resistivity, and a third layer surrounding the second layer and including a material having the relatively low resistivity. At least one of the first, second and third layers may include a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) material. The connector body may also include at least one member of a different thermoplastic material than the TPE material and being bonded to adjacent portions of the TPE material. For example, the different thermoplastic material may comprise polypropylene and the member may be a pulling eye or test point insert. In other embodiments, instead of TPE, at least one of the first, second and third layers may include a silicone material.

Enhanced separable connector with thermoplastic member and related methods

An electrical connector includes an electrically conductive body having spaced apart cable-receiving passageways for receiving respective electrical cable ends. The electrically conductive body may also have at least one respective fastener-receiving passageway intersecting each of the cable-receiving passageways. An insulating cover may be on the electrically conductive body and include an integrally molded respective tubular cable inlet aligned with each cable inlet opening. A respective insulating boot may be received in each of the tubular cable inlets. Each insulating boot may include a tubular sidewall having a progressively increasing diameter to an open outer end thereof, a removable boot closure cap for removable positioning in the open outer end of the tubular sidewall, and an integrally molded tether connecting the removable boot closure cap to the tubular sidewall.
