Battery container

A storage battery, particularly adapted for automotive applications, includes unique cover, venting and terminal constructions which, in their various embodiments, can accommodate virtually any automobile cable arrangement. Each of the several embodiments utilizes an identical container, electrode construction, intercell assembly and venting arrangement. Various types of exterior battery terminals, accommodating both conventional pressure clamps and threaded connectors, are connected to the battery electrodes through an intermediate primary cover. An outer secondary cover encloses the entire top of the battery, except for direct access to the exterior terminals, and the venting assembly is totally enclosed between the primary and secondary covers.

Storage battery construction

A device for use in supporting lead-acid batteries in vertically spaced apart stacked relation and particularly for use with limited maintenance batteries of the type which include a pair of upwardly extending battery posts projecting through the battery cover and of the type not having vent caps or other devices extending above the surface of the top cover. The invention includes a spacer which is intended to be positioned between two vertically stacked batteries and to provide support for the upper battery. The battery stacking spacer is adjustable so that it can be used in connection with batteries having various sizes and different dimensions between the battery terminal posts.

A rechargeable portable lead-acid battery for use in providing electrical power to portable devices such as lanterns and the like, the battery particularly including an improved container and cover, an improved battery post construction and an improved electrical assembly.

Portable rechargeable lead-acid battery

A composite battery plate grid comprising a plastic support molded to engage portions of a metallic conductive member. Using first and second mold halves, the conductive member is cast in a first pattern in the first and/or second mold halves. The plastic support is then injection molded in a second pattern in the first and/or second mold halves. In the alternative, after casting the conductive member in the first pattern, the second mold half is replaced by a third mold half with the conductive member remaining in the first mold half, and the plastic support is injection molded in a second pattern in the first and/or third mold halves. In all cases, during injection molding, the plastic material is caused to flow at selected portions of the conductive member, where, upon solidifying, the plastic support engages portions of the conductive member.

Composite battery plate grid and method of manufacturing

A battery and battery container having air-flow passages therethrough. The container includes partitions separating the cells of the battery, the partitions each being comprised of a pair of spaced apart parallel partition walls defining a narrow generally planar air flow passage between the cells of the battery. The spaced apart partition walls are integrally joined together at a location adjacent a central portion which includes an aperture to permit intercell welding of adjacent cells.
