Disclosed herein are electrodepositable coating compositions comprising a film forming resin and a textured additive, wherein the textured additive has a density (specific gravity) of no more than 4.5 g/cc and a melting point greater than the curing temperature of the electrodepositable coating composition. Also described are coated substrates having a cured coating layer comprising the electrodepositable coating composition, wherein the cured film layer has a texture of at least 250&#x3bc;-in as measured by a profilometer at conventional cured film thicknesses.

Near neutral buoyancy texture additive for electrodepositable coating compositions and associated methods for forming textured coated substrates

Disclosed is a coating formed from a composition containing a film-forming resin and a plurality of particles dispersed in the resin. The average particle size of the particles is 0.1 to 50 microns, and the particles have a hardness sufficient to impart greater mar and/or scratch resistance to the coating as compared to a coating where no particles are present. Also, the difference between the refractive ranges from 1 to 1.5. A method for preparing a powder coating including the particles also is provided.

A composition that includes a copolymer containing residues having the following structural units (I):where n is an integer from 1 to 10,000; Ris linear or branched Cto Calkyl; Ris selected from the group consisting of methyl, linear, cyclic, or branched Cto Calkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkaryl, and aralkyl; and Ris a moiety comprising a group that is capable of undergoing a polymerization reaction when exposed to actinic radiation or ionizing radiation. The composition may be used to coat a substrate by providing a substrate; applying a layer of a radiation-curable composition that includes the copolymer described above over at least a portion of a surface of the substrate; and curing the radiation-curable composition by exposing the layer to actinic radiation in an amount sufficient to effect curing of the radiation-curable composition.

Radiation-curable compositions containing alternating copolymers of isobutylene-type monomers

An abrasion resistant coating composition having excellent wear clarity is disclosed. The coating composition comprises a unique blend of particles, including alumina that has been treated with an organosilane and silica that is either similarly treated or left untreated. The use of these particles in combination allows for a significant reduction in the weight percent of wear resistant particles that can impart a suitable level of abrasion resistance to a coating. The particles can be included, for example, in a urethane acrylate binder that can be cured using UV radiation. Methods for using these coatings are also disclosed.

Alkyd-based free radical cured wood stains

Latex copolymers of vinyl halide and vinylidene halide reacted in the presence of a polymeric surfactant are advantageously employed as binders in waterborne stains and other coating compositions. Monomers from which the latex is polymerized may additionally include acrylates, vinyl esters, and/or unsaturated epoxies.
