A hinge for a folding ladder including a hinge latch movable between a locked position and an unlocked position disposed within a hinge latch cavity. The hinge latch includes a first locking portion protruding therefrom, an elongated slot formed configured to slidingly receive a hinge shaft, a first opening configured to receive a first biasing member, and a second opening configured to receive a locking member. Rotational movement of one hinge casing relative to another hinge casing is prevented by engagement of the first locking portion and locking member with a respective one of the first opening and second opening.

A support frame for a folding ladder, a folding ladder positioning system, and a method for installing a folding ladder, are disclosed and pertain to folding ladders disposable within an opening, such as openings in a ceiling of a house, to provide temporary access between one floor or space and another floor or space. In one aspect, a support frame includes a plurality of separable support frame plates collectively configured to circumscribe the opening and a plurality of connection sites are disposed at opposing ends of each of the plurality of separable support frame plates to facilitate connection of each support frame plate to adjacent support frame plates. The connection sites include, for example, mating locking connectors or a plurality of matching through-holes, which permit insertion of a fastening means therethrough.

Positioning system for folding ladder and method of installation of folding ladder using positioning system

A hook attachment for a ladder is provided and includes a pair of curved members, each of the curved members being formed in a tapered shape having a base portion of a first cross-sectional area and a tip portion of a second cross-sectional area smaller than the first cross-sectional area. A cross-sectional area between the base portion and the tip portion decreases in a substantially continuous manner in a direction from the base portion to the tip portion.

Posting ladder

A folding ladder is configured for installation in an opening to provide access between one floor or space and another floor or space. The folding ladder includes, in one aspect, an upper ladder section having a left ladder rail and a right ladder rail, a lower ladder section having a left ladder rail and a right ladder rail, a hinge rotatably connecting the upper ladder section ladder rails to the lower ladder section ladder rails, and a plurality of steps rotatably disposed between the upper and lower ladder rails. The plurality of steps are configured for rotation between a retracted position and a deployed position. At least one step disposed between the upper ladder rails and at least one step disposed between the lower ladder rails are linked by at least one linkage member so that each of the noted steps rotates between a retracted position and a deployed position upon rotational movement of the upper ladder section relative to the lower ladder section between a closed position and an open position.

Stowable ladder configured for installation in an opening

A stowable or foldable ladder is configured for installation in an opening between one floor or space and another floor or space. An upper ladder section includes a left ladder rail and a right ladder rail, a lower ladder section having a left ladder rail and a right ladder rail, a hinge rotatably connecting the upper ladder section left ladder rail to the lower ladder section left ladder rail and rotatably connecting the upper ladder section right ladder rail to the lower ladder section right ladder rail, and a plurality of steps rotatably disposed between the upper pair of ladder rails and the lower pair of ladder rails. The steps are configured for rotation between a retracted position and a deployed position.

A ladder system comprising a ladder having side rails and a plurality of steps disposed between the side rails. The ladder system also is comprised of at least one corner brace for supporting a bottom step of the ladder. The corner brace is attached to a side rail of the ladder and the bottom step. Additionally, the ladder system is comprised of at least one caster assembly integrally attached to the corner brace for allowing the ladder to roll. Preferably, the caster assembly and corner brace are disposed on the ladder such that a predetermined weight placed on the ladder prevents the ladder from rolling. The corner brace is preferably comprised of a first portion, a second portion connected to the first portion and a third portion connected to the second portion. The first portion is attached to a bottom of the ladder. The second portion is attached to the caster assembly. Additionally, the third portion is attached to a rail of the ladder. A caster apparatus comprises a corner brace for supporting a bottom step of a ladder. The caster apparatus is also comprised of a caster assembly integrally attached to the corner brace for allowing the ladder to roll. A method for forming a ladder system. The method comprises the steps of attaching a caster assembly to a corner brace for a ladder such that the caster assembly is in biased sliding relationship with the corner brace. Then, there is the step of fixing the corner brace having the caster assembly to a bottom step of the ladder and to a side rail of the ladder such that the rail is maintained off of ground by the caster assembly when there is essentially no weight on the ladder. Preferably, after the fixing step, there is the step of rolling the ladder on the caster assembly to a desired location.

Ladder system including a caster bracket and method of forming

A system for holding a ladder in a secure position relative to an object against which the ladder rests. The system comprises a strap that contacts the ladder and the object and secures the ladder to the object. The system is also comprised of a first buckle and a second buckle, with each buckle being able to be placed at a desired position on the strap. Each end of the strap passes through a respective buckle and is positioned about a side rail of the ladder. The present invention also pertains to a buckle for holding a strap. The buckle comprises a first member having a first hole. Additionally, the buckle is comprised of a second member having a second hole. There is also a third member having a third hole. The third member is in sliding relationship with the first and second members such that the first side of the third member can slide over the first hole and contact the strap extending therethrough. A second side of the third member can slide over the second hole and contact the strap extending therethrough. Moreover, a third hole can be defined between the first and second members which the strap can extend and which the first and second members can hold when they slide toward each other along the third member.
