A magnetically coupled toy system having two toy components such as a doll and nursing bottle is shown. The nursing bottle contains a motor-driven rotating permanent magnet in the nipple portion. A second permanent magnet is mounted in a flexible region around the mouth of a doll. When the nipple containing the rotating magnet is placed in proximity with the mouth of the doll, relative motion between the magnets imparts motion to the mouth and lip regions of the doll.

Magnetically coupled toy apparatus

A four-legged walking toy includes a body supported by four pivotally secured legs and a drive mechanism operative upon the legs which includes a pair of mirror image drive units each having three elliptical gears therein. The center elliptical gears of each drive unit are coupled in a one hundred eighty degree phase relationship to offset the operation of left legs from right legs correspondingly. A plurality of frictional members are positioned on the underside of the animal hooves to provide frictional engagement as the walking toy is pushed across a suitable surface. The rearward movement of each forwardly extended leg couples rotational power through the elliptical gear mechanisms to the remaining legs to provide a realistic motion profile.

Four-legged walking toy with improved leg action

A walking mechanism for a toy doll or character having at least one pair of legs. Each leg has a hip end and a foot end. A pair of elliptical idler gears are mounted for rotation about a common shaft, 180 degrees out-of-phase. A second pair of elliptical gears, each in driving relationship with a respective one of the elliptical idler gears are also 180 degrees out-of-phase. The hip end of each leg is mounted for movement with a stub shaft that is in a driven relationship with a respective one of the 180 degree out-of-phase elliptical driving gears to produce a varying speed, generally elliptical orbital movement of the legs to simulate walking.

Walking mechanism for toys

Stuffed dog

A soft stuffed puppy is carried in a flexible sling with the head of the puppy exposed. The head has animatable ears driven by rotation of the head relative to the body. In addition, a protruding moveable tongue is driven by an actuator which also serves to effect the rotation of the head relative to the body. Actuation of the animatable ears and tongue may be readily accomplished while the puppy is carried in the sling by a child.

Soft stuffed toy with manually driven head, ears and/or tongue

A motorized, self supporting ambulatory doll having pivoting foot or ankle, knee and hip joints with internal hidden parallelogram linkages driving the legs in a realistic articulation as the doll walks or jogs. In addition, the doll's torso, head and arms pivot in cooperation and synchronization with the movement of the legs to enhance the realism of the movement of the doll. Two speed operation of the doll provides for selective walking or jogging operation and electronic speech is coordinated with the selected speed.

Ambulatory doll

A doll with articulated legs that are motor driven to pivot in an alternating, out-of-phase, motion to simulate walking has switch controls actuatable by user manipulation of an arm and hand of the doll. Rotation of the arm energizes the motor while squeezing a depressible portion of the hand selectively increases the power to the motor and hence the walking speed of the doll.

Manually assisted and controlled walking doll

A cylindrical ring and a character having a number of extending parts that are circumscribed by a circle having a diameter equal to the inside diameter of the ring are readily combinable by a child to make a rotating toy. Insertion and removal of the character from the inside of the ring are facilitated by making the ring of a deformable material. The combined ring and character are placed in a vehicle in contact with the vehicle wheels so that as the vehicle is moved along a playing surface, the wheels rotate the combined ring and character. Part of the vehicle body is hinged for closing an opening through which the combined ring and character are inserted. Above the ring is a transparent dome in which a ball is positioned in contact with the ring so that as the combined ring and character rotate, the ball rotates within the dome. Other accessories provide rotatable surfaces which engage the outer curved surface of the cylindrical ring to rotate the combined ring and character. Yet another accessory provides surfaces on which the combined ring and character roll, under the force of gravity, and produce a bell ringing action.

Rotating ring and character toy

A readily and realistically poseable baby doll has shells made of double layers of stretch fabric for the torso, arms and legs. For the most part, each of the shells is filled with a very fine, freely flowable particulate filler. However, a less freely flowable stuffing material, such as DuPont Certified QUALLOFIL pillow stuffing material, is also inserted in particular locations. Stitched joints, inboard of the periphery of adjacent portions of the limbs, are used to connect the arms and legs to the torso. Atop a neck portion of the torso is a generally bulbous enlargement that contains the less freely flowable stuffing material and is compressible to fit inside and retain a hollow molded vinyl head on the neck and torso. Molded vinyl hands and feet may be attached to the free ends of the arms and legs.

Poseable soft doll

A character includes legs that pivot as well as move up and down relative to the torso either in an alternating, out of phase, walking simulating motion or simultaneously, in phase, to simulate rocking, as selected by the user. Movement of the legs is effected by a reversible motor driving a pair of crank disks that engage the legs connected to the torso by a pin received in a slot. One disk is fixed to the shaft and the other disk is rotatable about the shaft but is engaged by a peg that is received in a semicircular recess in a face of the other disk to, depending on the direction of rotation of the shaft, either drive the other disk in phase with the fixed disk or out of phase with the fixed disk.

Selectively rocking or walking doll

A doll with articulated legs and an articulated neck is releasably connected to a motor driven, steerable, remote controlled shopping cart. Movement of the cart causes a cam driven set of handles, to which the doll is attached, to pivot from side-to-side causing the doll to rock from side-to-side alternately lifting one leg and then the other. The accessory has two motors driving separate wheel axles that are each connected through a spring clutch to independently drive the cam. Remote control of the separate motors effects turning of the accessory. As each side of the doll is lifted from the ground, the respective leg is lifted and an eccentric weight within the lifted leg causes the leg to step forwardly.

A doll has bendable arms that are movable from a position generally alongside the doll's torso up toward the doll's head. Each arm has a hand attached for rotation about the wrist. When an arm is bent and moved up, the attached hand rotates. Movement of each arm is effected by a cable extending through a hollow, bendable conduit. One end of each cable is connected to a respective hand and at the other end to a common control knob. The hands are biased to rotate in one direction and rotate in the opposite direction when the respective cable is tightened. Side to side turning of the doll's head is also effected by movement of the control knob. In addition, a 'crying' sound is effected through the control knob by turning over a sound drum when the arm and head motions are made.

Doll with rotating and bendable arms

An electronic game playing device including an animated character and a synthesized voice. Game play instructions, required responses and awards, are contained in a program memory within a base on which the character is mounted. Carried by the base are a player input touch pad including the letters of the alphabet and individual player input buttons as well as a gridwork of lightable spaces. Animation of different features of the character is initiated at different times in response to audio signals emanating from the voice synthesis, or from an interfaced tape player, through an animation drive powered by a single motor. The animiation drive includes a shaft carrying relatively rotatable components some of which are rotated by other of the components after a predetermined amount of rotation by such other components. Movement of the character's mouth is accomplished by a second motor having a drive engaging the edge of an inner extension of the lower jaw.

Electronic game with animated host

A method of making a permanently attached doll wig integrating a high pile, backed piece of material and strands of synthetic doll hair rooted through both the material and the doll head. Initially, the material is attached to the doll head pile side down by a line of stitching. The material is then folded over and held in place by an adhesive and permanently secured by rooting strands of synthetic doll hair through both the material and the doll head. Rooting some synthetic doll hair directly into the doll head adjacent to, but beyond, the edges of the material, obscures the edges.

Method of making a permanent doll wig

A toy figure with a head having a substantially rigid outer surface of a first appearance is covered by a relatively flexible outer mask having a second appearance which is self-supporting in normal atmospheric pressure. The mask is secured in substantially airtight relationship covering, but spaced from, the outer surface of the head. Reduction of the pressure in the space between the outer surface of the head and the mask by a pump collapses the mask and conforms its appearance to the first appearance of the outer surface of the underlying head. Both the interior of the mask and the outer surface of the head are provided with approximately the same surface area. Upper and lower portions of the torso of the figure are slidingly separable to operate a piston pump to reduce the pressure in the space between the head and the mask.
