The present invention relates to compounds with high chemical stability and methods for inhibiting the pathological activity of extracellular histones in a subject. In particular, the invention relates to compounds with high chemical stability, uses thereof and methods for inhibiting or ameliorating extracellular histone mediated ailments (such as, for example, sepsis, systemic immune response syndrome (SIRS) and ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI)). More particularly, the invention relates to methods and uses of a polyanionic sulfated cellobioside modified with a small uncharged glycosidically linked substituent at its reducing terminus, wherein the presence of the substituent results in a molecule with high chemical stability without affecting the ability of the molecule to be effective in the therapy of extracellular histone mediated ailments. For example, the present invention relates to methods and uses of β-O-methyl cellobioside sulfate (mCBS) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof (e.g., mCBS.Na), in the therapy of a range of extracellular histone mediated ailments in subjects.

Compounds for treating and preventing extracellular histone mediated pathologies

The present invention relates to compounds with high chemical stability and methods for inhibiting the pathological activity of NETs in a subject. In particular, the invention relates to compounds with high chemical stability, uses thereof and methods for inhibiting or ameliorating NET mediated ailments (such as, for example, sepsis, systemic immune response syndrome (SIRS) and ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI)). Compounds for treating and preventing net associated complications

The invention relates to a radiolabelled material comprising a polymer, a radioactive isotope, and an immobilizing agent, wherein the immobilizing agent is capable of immobilizing the radioactive isotope on or in the polymer, and wherein the immobilizing agent is a macromolecule comprising a polycation with multiple pendant metal-chelating side-chains. The invention also relates to a process for making a radiolabelled material, to use of a radiolabelled material for the preparation of medicaments for treating cancer and/or for radiation imaging and to use of a radiolabelled material in the treatment of cancer. There is further described use of an immobilizing agent to immobilize a radioactive isotope on or in a polymer.

The present invention relates to a method for preparing a radiolabeled synthetic polymer, the method comprising contacting a synthetic polymer with a carbon encapsulated nanoparticle composite having a radioactive particulate core in an aqueous medium comprising an electrolyte concentration or pH selected to promote short-range attractive forces between the nanoparticles and the synthetic polymer by attenuating long-range electrostatic repulsive forces.

Methods for radiolabeling synthetic polymers

The present invention relates to a method for preparing a radiolabeled macromolecule, the method comprising contacting a macromolecule with a carbon encapsulated nanoparticle composite having a radioactive particulate core in an aqueous medium comprising a pH selected to promote short-range attractive forces between the nanoparticles and the macromolecule by attenuating repulsive electrostatic forces.

Methods for radiolabeling macromolecules

The invention relates to a method of inhibiting the cytotoxic activity of extracellular histones in a subject, comprising administering an effective amount of a polyanion to the subject. In particular the invention relates to a method for the treatment of patients who are suffering from sepsis and employs polyanions to rapidly form complexes with and thus neutralize or inhibit the cytotoxic activity of extracellular histone proteins, for example, those found in the blood circulation of sepsis patients.

A method of forming an injectable radioactive composition, the method comprising the steps of: (a) depositing a solid form of technetium onto a carbon crucible; (b) preheating the solid form of technetium to remove any carrier; (c) plasma ablating the technetium and portions of the carbon crucible; (d) allowing the carbon and technetium metal to co-condense from the gas phase to produce a nanoparticle composite aerosol in an inert gas; (e) dispersing the nanoparticle composite in water containing a low concentration of surfactant using an electrostatic precipitator; (f) size fractionating the nanoparticle dispersion by filtration with hydrophilic membranes of known pore size.

Method of forming an injectable radioactive composition of a carbon encapsulated radioactive particulate

A method for forming an inhalable isotope compound suitable for use in patient medical diagnosis, the method comprising the steps of: (a) electrolytic loading of a carbon crucible with the isotope; (b) sublimating any isotope carrier in the crucible; (c) ablating the isotope in a carbon crucible, forming an ablation aerosol; (d) directly delivering the aerosol for immediate use by a patient. The isotope can comprise technetium.
