Imported LNG treatment

In apparatus to convert cryogenic fluid to gas, a vaporizer having passages to pass the cool or cold cryogenic fluid in heat transfer relation with warming gas flowing downwardly through the vaporizer, the vaporizer having surfaces on which ice collects and from which ice falls to the base of the vaporizer and collects in a pile, and removing fluid flow control means operating to direct flow of removing fluid at the ice pile with sufficient force to cause removal of such ice in the pile relative to the vaporizer base.

In the method of using ambient air to vaporize liquefied gas, the steps include transferring heat from a stream of ambient air to a stream of liquefied gas, thereby cooling the air stream, and vaporizing the liquid; transferring heat from a source into the cooled air stream; and then discharging the heated air stream to atmosphere, sufficient heat being transferred to obviate objectionable fog production resulting from step c).

The method of adding heat to refrigerated rich liquid that accumulates in a reservoir in a distillation column, to prevent the column from flooding, that includes the steps sensing a rise in rich liquid level to predetermined level in the reservoir, removing rich liquid from the reservoir in response to said sensing, to flow to vaporizer apparatus outside a cold box containing said column, adding heat to the removed rich liquid and converting the removed rich liquid into gas, in said vaporizer apparatus, returning said gas to the distillation column, and utilizing heat from the returned gas in the column to remove excess refrigeration from the rich liquid remaining in the column, thereby stabilizing the column against flooding.

In apparatus to convert cryogenic fluid to gas, a vaporizer having passages to pass the cool or cold cryogenic fluid in heat transfer relation with warming gas flowing downwardly through the vaporizer, structure extending below the level of the vaporizer to receive the downwardly flowing gas and to re-direct it to discharge to atmosphere, the structure including ducting configured and sized to enhance the down flow and discharge rates of the gas, whereby the temperature of the discharged gas is maintained above the level that would exist in the absence of the ducting, and potential fogging at the discharge is reduced.

In combination, pressurized fluid contained in a storage vessel, in both liquid and vapor regions, a heat exchanger in the vapor region of the vessel, and a first pressure regulator having an inlet side in communication with liquid in the vessel, and having an outlet side in communication with the heat exchanger, whereby if pressure in the vessel rises to the setting of the regulator, it opens and admits liquid from the vessel to the heat exchanger, to vaporize in that exchanger causing vapor in the vessel to condense, and reducing pressure in the vessel.

The method of processing air prior to separation of such air into gaseous components, the steps that include: first compressing a stream of air and cooling the compressed air, to enable water separation and removal from the stream, to provide a dry stream of air; then further compressing the dry air stream and cooling the compressed dry air stream to enable removal of contained remanent water; then expanding the cooled air stream in an expansion stage which extracts work from the expanding stream; then passing the expanded air stream to a separator operating to remove water from the stream, thereby producing dry air passed to a component gas separation stage or stages.
