An air vehicle assembly initialization and ejection system includes a canister configured to contain an air vehicle assembly, where the air vehicle assembly includes an onboard electronic system and at least one squib for ejecting the air vehicle assembly from the canister. The system further includes a magazine having a canister position configured to contain the canister. The system further includes a first signal path providing electrical communication of a first control signal between the canister position and the canister, the first control signal for causing the onboard electronic system to power up, and a second signal path providing electrical communication of a second control signal between the canister position and the canister, the second control signal for causing the at least one squib to detonate.

Air vehicle assembly initialization and ejection

A method of on-demand energy delivery to an active suspension system is disclosed. The suspension system includes an actuator body, a hydraulic pump, an electric motor, a plurality of sensors, an energy storage facility, and a controller. The method includes disposing an active suspension system in a vehicle between a wheel mount and a vehicle body, detecting a wheel event requiring control of the active suspension; and sourcing energy from the energy storage facility and delivering it to the electric motor in response to the wheel event.

Active vehicle suspension

A lead screw control actuation system. A system according to an embodiment includes a motor configured to rotate a lead screw that is configured to increase torque provided by the motor. The lead screw is coupled to a nut through a threaded opening such that rotation of the lead screw causes the nut to move along a longitudinal axis of the lead screw. The nut includes a slot oriented in a direction perpendicular to the direction of motion of the nut. The system further includes a lever arm including a pin at a first end of the lever arm, the pin configured to slide in the slot of the nut to cause the lever arm to rotate in response to the motion of the nut. A second end of the lever arm is coupled to a canard such that rotation of the lever arm causes the canard to rotate.

Lead screw control actuation system

A linear energy harvesting device that includes a housing and a piston that moves at least partially through the housing when it is compressed or extended from a rest position. When the piston moves, hydraulic fluid is pressurized and drives a hydraulic motor. The hydraulic motor drives an electric generator that produces electricity. Both the motor and generator are central to the device housing. Exemplary configurations are disclosed such as monotube, twin-tube, tri-tube and rotary based designs that each incorporates an integrated energy harvesting apparatus. By varying the electrical characteristics on an internal generator, the kinematic characteristics of the energy harvesting apparatus can be dynamically altered. In another mode, the apparatus can be used as an actuator to create linear movement. Applications include vehicle suspension systems (to act as the primary damper component), railcar bogie dampers, or industrial applications such as machinery dampers and wave energy harvesters, and electro-hydraulic actuators.

Integrated energy generating damper

A method of on-demand energy delivery to an active suspension system comprising an actuator body, hydraulic pump, electric motor, plurality of sensors, energy storage facility, and controller is provided. The method comprises disposing an active suspension system in a vehicle between a wheel mount and a vehicle body, detecting a wheel event requiring control of the active suspension; and sourcing energy from the energy storage facility and delivering it to the electric motor in response to the wheel event.

Active vehicle suspension system

Embodiments related to active vibration isolation systems for a vehicle seat, as well as their methods of use, are disclosed. In some embodiments, an active suspension system may be configured to support a seat above a floor of a vehicle. The active suspension system may include two or more actuators that may be operated cooperatively to control both the roll and heave of the vehicle seat. In some instances, these actuators may also be non-back-drivable actuators. Additionally, in some embodiments, an active suspension system may include one or more torsion springs that apply torques in parallel with associated actuators of the active suspension system to support at least a portion of the loads applied to the active suspension system during operation.

Active seat suspension systems including systems with non-back-drivable actuators

An antenna module configured for use on an underwater vehicle is disclosed. The antenna module includes an array of spiral antennas fabricated on a multi-layer substrate that provides wide-band RF communication with direction finding (DF) capability. The antenna module can also include other antennas fabricated on the same multi-layer substrate, such as one or more global positioning system (GPS) receivers, an ultra-high frequency/very-high frequency (UHV/VHF) antenna, or one or more iridium antennas. The antenna module may further include a water-proof housing that is coupled to the outside hull of an undersea vehicle via a coupling mechanism. The coupling mechanism allows the antenna module to rotate between a stowed position against the hull and a deployed position that extends the antennas out away from the undersea vehicle. The antenna module is curved or flexible so it can stow against a corresponding curved hull of the undersea vehicle.

Rotatable antenna design for undersea vehicles

An active suspension system is configured in a strut arrangement. The active suspension system comprises a hydraulic actuator and a hydraulic pump/electric motor assembly, wherein the actuator movement is preferably in lockstep with the hydraulic motor-pump and electric motor-generator combination. Torque in the electric motor is instantaneously controlled by a controller to create an immediate force change on the hydraulic actuator. The hydraulic actuator is configured so that it can be used as a strut whereby the actuator has sufficient structural rigidity to carry the applied suspension loads while capable of supplying damper forces in at least three quadrants of the force velocity graph of the suspension actuator operation. Embodiments disclosed include low cost active suspension systems for a MacPherson strut application.

Active suspension with structural actuator

A rollable mast system couplable to an undersea vehicle includes a mast made of a bi-stable composite material configured to roll onto itself in a first state and to stiffen into an elongated stable shape in a second state, and a head structure coupled to a distal end of the mast. The rollable mast system further includes a spool configured to support at least a portion of the bi-stable composite material in its first state and a roller in contact with the bi-stable composite material and configured to pay out the bi-stable composite material from the spool in a direction away from a hull of the undersea vehicle. The bi-stable composite material is in the first state as it passes from the spool to the roller, and the bi-stable composite material is in the second state after it passes the roller.
