A skimmer apparatus is provided to separate a less dense upper liquid layer from on top of a denser lower liquid layer. The skimmer apparatus includes a skimmer vessel at least partially submerged within a fluid and preferentially receive the less dense fluid. A first conduit is located within the skimmer vessel by a plurality of support arms. The plurality of support arms affixes the first conduit's vertical and radial location within skimmer vessel. In use, the skimmer height is set to collect the less dense fluid into the skimmer vessel. A lower end of the first conduit is in fluid communication with the inside of the skimmer vessel and the collected fluid therein. An upper end of the first conduit is configured for being suctioned thereby withdrawing fluid from the skimmer vessel.

Separation apparatus, system and method of use

An exercise apparatus, system, or kit that includes separate components that can be used together during a workout. In one embodiment, the exercise kit includes a hub having a monolithic body portion and sleeve portions thereon. During use, only the sleeve portions contact the surface upon which the hub is located. The hub also has an annular groove formed therein and a bore formed therethrough. The kit also includes an elongated bar that is configured to interact with the hub in multiple positions to enable user to perform difference exercises. The different positions include: (1) a first exercise position wherein the elongated bar is positioned within the bore and portions of the elongated bar protrude from the first and second ends of the monolithic body portion; and (2) a second exercise position wherein the elongated bar is positioned within the annular groove.

Exercise system and kit

An exercise apparatus, system, or kit that includes separate components that can be used together during a workout. In one embodiment, the exercise system includes a cylindrical body, an elongated bar, and one or more resistance bands. The elongated bar may be a one-piece bar or a multi-piece bar. The cylindrical body extends along a longitudinal axis and has an annular groove formed into its outer surface that surrounds the longitudinal axis and a bore extending through the cylindrical body in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The dimensions of the bar, the groove, and the bore are such that the bar can be inserted into and through the bore and the bar can be positioned within the annular groove to achieve different types of exercise. Furthermore, the resistance bands can be coupled to the elongated bar.

A brain implant device includes a housing containing communication and control electronics coupled to a conduit configured for monitoring signals from a brain's motor cortex and providing stimulation signals to the brain's sensory cortex. The brain implant device is capable of wireless communication with an external communication and control signal source by means of an antenna provided in the housing. The conduit is flexible and may contain upwards of 128 electrical conductors providing electrical connections between the device electronics and related sites on the motor and/or sensory cortex by means of a plurality of electrically conductive protuberances extending from the conduit and adapted for contact with such sites.

Brain implant device

An exercise system or kit that includes separate components that can be used together during a workout. In one embodiment, the exercise system includes a cylindrical body, an elongated bar, and one or more resistance bands. The elongated bar may be a one-piece bar or a multi-piece bar. The cylindrical body extends along a longitudinal axis and has an annular groove formed into its outer surface that surrounds the longitudinal axis and a bore extending through the cylindrical body in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The dimensions of the bar, the groove, and the bore are such that the bar can be inserted into and through the bore and the bar can be positioned within the annular groove to achieve different types of exercise. Furthermore, the resistance bands can be coupled to the elongated bar.

The invention is a hollow electrode implantation device for inserting a flexible electrode, such as a Memberg electrode, in living tissue. The inserter has a longitudinal slot that accepts the electrode into the hollow center of the electrode implantation device. The slot is offset at least once forming one or more offset slots, where retainer tabs define the slots and assure retention of the electrode in the implantation device during insertion of the electrode into living tissue.

The present invention provides improvements to an implant, system and method using passive electrical conductors which route electrical current to either external or implanted electrical devices, to multiple target body tissues and to selective target body tissues. The passive electrical conductor extends from subcutaneous tissue located below either a surface cathodic electrode or a surface anodic electrode a) to a target tissue to route electrical signals from the target body tissue to devices external to the body; b) to implanted electrical devices to deliver electrical current to such devices, or c) to multiple target body tissues or to selective target body tissues to stimulate the target body tissues. The conductor has specialized ends for achieving such purposes.

A device configured for implantation beneath a patient's skin for the purpose of tissue, e.g., nerve or muscle, stimulation and/or parameter monitoring and/or data communication. Devices in accordance with the invention are comprised of a sealed housing, typically having an axial dimension of less than 60 mm and a lateral dimension of less than 6 mm, containing a power source for powering electronic circuitry within. A placement structure is shown for facilitating placement of the implantable device proximate to neural/muscular tissue.

A system and method that facilitates stimulating neural pathways, e.g., muscles and/or associated nerves, of a patient's body for the purpose of therapeutic medical treatment by rehabilitating weakened muscles and using neuroplasticity to retrain sequential muscle movements and/or to provide the ability to directly deliver functional motor movements. Use of the present invention is of particular value for treating a patient following a stroke. More particularly, such systems are characterized by a plurality of discrete devices, preferably battery powered but may alternatively include RF-powered devices as well or in combination, configured for implanting within a patient's body via injection, each device being configured to affect a parameter, e.g., via nerve and/or muscle stimulation and/or to sense a body parameter, e.g., temperature, Ocontent, physical position, electrical potential, etc., that operate under control of a system controller that coordinates the sequential stimulation via wireless commands to the implanted devices.

A method for facilitating placement of an implantable device configured for implantation beneath a patient's skin for the purpose of tissue, e.g., nerve or muscle, stimulation and/or parameter monitoring and/or data communication. A placement structure is shown for facilitating placement of the implantable device proximate to neural/muscular tissue.

Method of placing an implantable device proximate to neural/muscular tissue

A method for treating shoulder subluxation using an implantable device to stimulate the axillary nerve which in turn activates sensory fibers to relieve shoulder pain and activates deltoid muscle to treat disuse atrophy and possibly augment any weakened voluntary movements. Known stimulation devices are either (1) external requiring surface electrodes or (2) implantable located directly into the deltoid muscle allowing stimulation of the proximate motor-points; each requiring relatively large stimulus currents and neither directly dealing with the pain resulting from the shoulder subluxation. In the present invention, a device is implanted via injection or open surgery proximate to the axillary nerve. Advantageously, the nerve branches into portions that stimulate the deltoid muscle and pass sensory signals. By stimulating the axillary nerve (1) a lower stimulus signal level can be used and (2) pain may be blocked while treating the atrophied deltoid muscle and augmenting weakened voluntary movements.

Electrical treatment to treat shoulder subluxation

The coupling of radio signals, to and from the surface of a conductive body and to and from associated radio apparatus is optimized by adding, proximate to the edge of an opening (such as a window) in the body, a closed loop of relatively highly conductive material, such as copper, and coupling said radio signals to said associated radio apparatus through a plurality of interconnected adjacent loops proximate to said closed loop to maintain proper proportion of E fields and H fields in the signals fed to associated radio apparatus.
