A field device includes a process communication module, a graphical display and a controller. The process communication module is configured to communicate in accordance with a process industry standard communication protocol. The controller is operably coupled to the process communication module and the graphical display and is configured to responsively cause the graphical display to generate a machine-readable display output.

Unidirectional field device data transfer

A RFID transceiver interrogates RFID tags located on process components and provides identification data stored on the RFID tags to a process measurement device coupled to the process components. Based on the identification data received, the process measurement device configures itself to interpret data provided by the process components. Proper configuration allows the process measurement device to provide meaningful process data to a control room.

System and method for identification of process components

A process variable transmitter with diagnostics based on power spectral density (PSD) analysis of a process variable sensor signal is provided. In one embodiment, the process variable transmitter is a pressure transmitter and the diagnostics are used to diagnose impulse line obstruction or impending obstruction. Other diagnostics are also useful such as diagnosing primary element degradation. The sensor signal is digitized and the digitized signal is transferred into the frequency domain. The power of the frequencies on the sensor signal is examined to provide the enhanced diagnostics. In one aspect diagnostics are generated directly with the sensor PSD data. In another aspect, the PSD analysis is used to tune a filter in order to enhance traditional diagnostic algorithms.
