An article for holding a liquefied sample for the quantification of biological material in the sample includes a device having a reaction chamber enclosing a volume therein, the reaction chamber having an upper opening through which a liquefied sample can be poured and a plurality of discrete non-permeable compartments, each of the compartments having an upper rim and being configured and dimensioned to hold separate aliquots of a liquefied sample therein; and a gasket lid removably secured to the top of the device, the gasket lid being configured and dimensioned for sealing the upper rim of each compartment to prevent liquid communication between the compartments.

Apparatus and method for testing liquid samples

A retaining clip for retaining reagent test slides in a stacked arrangement includes a first assembly having a first cover plate and at least two parallel, co-planar rails extending transversely from an inner surface of the first cover plate. A second assembly includes a second cover plate, and a rail receiving platform extending transversely from an inner surface of the second cover plate. The first cover plate and the second cover plate define between them a space for receiving the plurality of reagent test slides. The rails of the first assembly include ratchet teeth, and the rail receiving platform of the second assembly includes pawls. The pawls engage the ratchet teeth to prevent the separation of the first assembly and the second assembly and to securely but removably hold the plurality of reagent test slides in a stacked arrangement between the first and second cover plates.

Retaining clip for reagent test slides

A retaining clip for retaining reagent test slides in a stacked arrangement is formed as a unitary member and has first, second and third plates, each having an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface of the first plate pivots towards the inner surface of the second plate, and the inner surface of the third plate also pivots such that the inner surfaces of the first and third plates at least partially face each other upon pivoting. The inner surfaces of the first and third plates are separated by a distance to accommodate the reagent test slides in a stacked arrangement. Alternatively, the third and second plates can be fixed rigidly to each other with only the first plate pivoting to at least partially face the third plate upon pivoting.

An optical system for an internal drum readout apparatus is disclosed. The optical system includes a hollow cylindrical segment defining a central axis, a support structure configured and adapted to translate along the central axis, a mirror mounted on the support structure for translational movement therewith and for rotational spinning around the central axis, a light source mounted to the support structure for providing a beam capable of being directed along the central axis which in turn is directed against the medium thereby producing a stimulated light, a detector coaxially aligned with the central axis, the detector being configured and adapted to absorb stimulated light direct toward and reflected off of the angled mirror, and a shroud mounted on the support structure for blocking stimulated light not directed toward the angled mirror, wherein the stimulated light not directed toward the angled mirror would otherwise degrade the medium prematurely.
