A fuel injector for gaseous fuel is provided. The fuel injector includes a valve assembly with a fuel flow valve and a second valve. The fuel flow valve is actively controlled to permit and prohibit gaseous fuel flow through the fuel injector. The second valve is spaced from the fuel flow valve and passively controlled to open in response to the gaseous fuel flow though the fuel flow valve, and to close when the gaseous fuel flow is terminated by closing the fuel flow valve.

An injector includes a nozzle body extending along a longitudinal axis and at least one spray hole extending through a portion of the nozzle body to output a fluid from the injector. The spray hole includes at least one groove. The groove is configured to facilitate efficient mixing of the fluid with air or other surrounding materials for enhanced performance of the injector and/or other components associated with the injector.

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for fuel injection are disclosed. The apparatus includes an inner sac with at least one spray hole disposed on an inner surface of the apparatus, the at least one spray hole leading to a fuel passage extending therefrom, at least one counterbore extending partially between an outer surface of the apparatus and the sac along the fuel passage, and at least one air entrainment hole extending from the outer surface of the apparatus toward the at least one counterbore, the at least one air entrainment hole fluidly coupled with the at least one counterbore and configured to provide air to the fuel passage.

A method for operating an engine fueling system to manage fuel in an accumulator supplying fuel to an engine including multiple cylinders comprising monitoring fuel load in the accumulator, determining that the engine is operating in a cylinder deactivation mode such as a skip-fire mode during which one or more fueling events to one or more of the cylinders is being skipped, and controlling a supply of fuel from a fuel pump to the accumulator during the cylinder deactivation mode operation. In embodiments, controlling the supply of fuel includes causing fuel to be supplied from the fuel pump to the accumulator if the monitored fuel load is less than or equal to a first fuel load, and causing fuel to be not supplied from the fuel pump to the accumulator if the monitored fuel load is greater than the first load value. Controlling the supply of fuel may comprise controlling the supply of fuel during each fueling event cycle of each deactivated cylinder.

A method of controlling a skip-fire cylinder deactivation system of an engine system is provided. The method includes a controller deactivating a cylinder of the engine system to operate the engine system in a skip-fire mode. The method further includes determining a temperature of an injector tip nozzle associated with the cylinder and comparing the temperature of the injector tip nozzle to a threshold a temperature. In response to determining that the temperature of the injector tip nozzle is greater than the threshold temperature, the cylinder is activated by the controller.

Systems and methods for skip-fire operation control

Apparatuses and methods for fuel injection are disclosed. The apparatus includes an inner sac with one or more primary passages extending therefrom. The one or more primary passages inject fuel therethrough and comprising a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion, where the second portion is disposed between the first portion and the third portion and has a cross-sectional area smaller than that of both the first portion and the third portion. The apparatus also includes one or more secondary passages extending from an outer surface of the apparatus to fluidly couple with the second portion of the one or more primary passages. The one or more secondary passages inject air to form fuel-and-air mixture with the fuel injected from the one or more primary passages.

A one-piece solenoid stator core is provided, comprising: a plurality of outer wall segments; a plurality of inner wall segments; and a lower wall extending between the plurality of outer wall segments and the plurality of inner wall segments; wherein a plurality of outer slots is defined between the plurality of outer wall segments and a plurality of inner slots is defined between the plurality of inner wall segments, each of the outer slots being radially aligned with an inner slot relative to a central axis of the stator core.
