Addition products of phenylalkyl glycidyl ethers to polyalkylene glycol ethers of the formula ##STR1## their acid esters and salts thereof, wherein R is an aliphatic radical having at least 4 carbon atoms, 'Alkylene' is an alkylene radical of 2 or 3 carbon atoms, and m is a number from 2 to 100. These products represent a novel class of non-ionic or anionic surfactants that are used as textile finishing agents, especially as emulsifiers, wetting agents, foaminhibitors or dyeing auxiliaries.

These compounds are suitable for a wide range of utilities in textile application. In particular, they are used as assistants for dyeing wool-containing fibre materials with anionic dyes or mixtures of dyes.
