Systems and methods are provided for processing a logical page in parallel with graphics for the sheet that are defined in a job ticket. The system includes multiple parallel Raster Image Processors (RIPs) and a control system. The control system receives print data and a job ticket, identifies a graphic that is associated with a logical page and defined in the job ticket, and transmits the logical page to a parallel RIP for processing. The parallel RIP determines page dimensions from the logical page, transmits the page dimensions, and rasterizes the logical page. The control system determines a location for the graphic based upon the transmitted page dimensions, and directs another RIP to rasterize the graphic in order to generate a rasterized graphic in parallel with the RIP that is rasterizing the logical page.

Parallel rip processing for sheet images that include graphics defined by a job ticket

A printer includes a print head having a first print channel to print data on each page of a print medium according to a first color plane and a second print channel to print data on each page of the print medium according to the first color plane. The printer also includes a verification unit to generate a first channel identifier to identify data printed by the first print channel and a second print channel identifier to identify data printed by the second print channel.

Print channel identification mechanism

Systems and methods are provided for printer controller, dynamic N-UP print job imaging. An enhanced printer includes features hereof to dynamically adjust parameters of a print job at any point in a print job. In one aspect hereof, the printer configures a print job for an initial set of printing parameters without host system intervention and may reconfigure those parameters during printing of the print job. In another aspect hereof, the adjustments may include adjusting the relative position of any of the N-UP images independent of any other of the N-UP images. Another aspect hereof provides that the formatting of the print job according to printing parameters by the printer occurs after rasterizing the print job into logical page images. Since the formatting is performed after rasterizing, the printing parameters may be changed at any time during printing of the print job.

Printer controlled dynamically altered N-UP imaging

A command is provided as a means to instruct a printer to pre-rasterize and store presentation objects according to specified presentation parameters. The stored rasterized objects are available to the printer for use during printing when a print job is submitted to the printer which includes a presentation object already rasterized, saving significant processing at print time. The rasterized objects are stored with information identifying the object and the parameters used in the rasterization process and the printer is enabled to identify the appropriate rasterized object for inclusion in the print job. Objects may also be selected by a printer at print time as most closely matching the required parameters and then adjusted as needed at print time to completely conform with the requirements of inclusion in the job. This capability allows the printer to perform trimming-on-the-fly or other real-time operations while enjoying the time-saving benefits of a pre-rasterized object.

Dynamic early preparation of presentation objects for efficient printing

Provided is a method, system, and program for interfacing with a printer driver. Data and an acknowledgment request is received from the printer driver. The printer driver does not send further data to print until receiving an acknowledgment reply indicating that the transmitted data passed an initial check to improve printer performance. An acknowledgment reply is transmitted to the printer driver in response to the acknowledgment request before completing the initial check of the sent data to cause the printer driver to send further data. Data processing operations are resynchronized in response to detecting an error in the received data. The received data is rasterized and outputted.

Method, system, and program for responding to an acknowledgement request from a printer driver

A method, system, and program for automatically switching operational modes of a printer between direct and on-demand modes. A rasterizer receives a data stream containing various data sets to be presented. The rasterizer detects occurrences of an include command that specifies remotely stored data that is to be presented. In response to the detected include commands, the rasterizer automatically switches between a direct mode and an on-demand mode of presentation as an operational mode for the printer while continuously processing the data stream. The printer is initialized to operate in a desired operational print mode. If the printer is operating in the on-demand mode of presentation, the print rasterizer switches the printer to operate in the direct mode when the print rasterizer detects a predetermined number of consecutive pages that do not have the include command. Conversely, when the printer is operating in the direct mode of presentation, the print rasterizer switches the printer to operate in the on-demand mode when the print rasterizer detects a predetermined number of consecutive pages containing the include command. The present invention is not limited to being implemented in a printer and may also be implemented in a display device.

System, method, and program for automatically switching operational modes of a printer between direct and print-on-demand (POD) modes

A system, method, and program for optimally caching in a memory system an overlay instance. The system includes a local memory and a rasterizing processor coupled to the local memory. Responsive to receipt of a presentation requirement specifying an overlay stored in a memory device, the rasterizing processor determines whether an overlay instance for the overlay is cached in a memory system. Responsive to the overlay instance not being cached in the memory system, the rasterizing processor generates a new overlay instance for the overlay and caches the new overlay instance in the memory system. Responsive to the overlay instance being cached in the memory system, the rasterizing processor produces another overlay instance tailored to the presentation requirements, compares the another overlay instance to the cached overlay instance and then caches into the memory system only one overlay instance among the another overlay instance and the cached overlay instance that best presents the overlay. The rasterizing processor discards the other overlay instance.

System, method, and program for optimally caching overlay instances in a memory system

A method and document presentation system utilize at least one N-up instruction together with at least one emulation instruction to cause multiple sheetlets to be presented on a surface of a physical sheet while multiple logical pages are presented within the multiple sheetlets. The at-least-one N-up instruction specifies that first and second logical pages are to be presented within a first sidemap and that a third logical page is to be presented within a second sidemap. The at-least-one emulation instruction specifies that said first sidemap is to be presented within a sheetlet on first area of a surface of a physical medium and that the second sidemap is to be presented within a second sheetlet on a second area of that surface.
