Resonant DC-DC converter control circuitry includes a feedback input, a differential integrator, a resonant voltage input, a first comparator, and a second comparator. The differential integrator includes a first input, a second input, a first output, and a second output. The first input is coupled to the feedback input. The second input is coupled to a ground terminal. The first comparator includes a first input coupled to the resonant voltage input, and a second input coupled to the first output of the differential integrator. The second comparator includes a first input coupled to the resonant voltage input, and a second input coupled to the second output of the differential integrator.

Resonant DC-DC converter with average half cycle control

In an example, a system comprises a boost power factor correction (PFC) converter that includes a thermistor, an inductor, and a transistor and a PFC controller coupled to a common node. The PFC controller includes a comparator coupled to a threshold voltage source and to a terminal of the transistor. A first flip-flop is coupled to the comparator and to a control terminal of the transistor. A zero current detector is coupled to the inductor. A timer is coupled to the comparator and to the zero current detector. A second flip-flop is coupled to the timer and to the control terminal of the transistor. An AND gate is coupled to the first and second flip-flops. The circuit includes third and fourth flip flops.

Power factor correction boost converter having an on-time responsive to negative current

Embodiments include systems, methods, and apparatuses for controlling off-time during a burst mode in an LLC converter. In one embodiment, a circuit comprises an LLC converter having a primary side and a burst mode controller, the burst mode controller configured to monitor, on the primary side of the LLC converter, electrical current, and in response to a determination that the electrical current is below a first threshold, increase an off-time for switches in the LLC converter and in response to a determination that the electrical current is above a second threshold that is higher than the first threshold, decrease the off-time for the switches in the LLC converter.

In an example, a system comprises a boost power factor correction (PFC) converter including a thermistor, an inductor, and a transistor coupled to a common node. The system also comprises a PFC controller coupled to the common node. The PFC controller includes a comparator coupled to a threshold voltage source and to a non-control terminal of the transistor; a first flip-flop coupled to the comparator and to a control terminal of the transistor; a zero current detector coupled to the inductor; a timer coupled to the comparator and to the zero current detector; a second flip-flop coupled to the timer and to the control terminal of the transistor; an AND gate coupled to the first and second flip-flops; a third flip-flop coupled to the second flip-flop and to the control terminal of the transistor; and a fourth flip-flop coupled to the AND gate and to the control terminal of the transistor.

Peak detection methods, apparatus, and circuits are disclosed. An example peak detector includes a first peak-hold circuit having a first input terminal and a first output terminal, the first peak-hold circuit to determine a first peak of a rectified input voltage at the first input terminal during a first time interval, and to track a second peak of the rectified input voltage during a second time interval, the second time interval distinct from the first time interval, and a second peak-hold circuit having a second input terminal and a second output terminal, the second peak-hold circuit to determine, during the second time interval, a greater of the first peak and the second peak, the first output terminal coupled to the second input terminal, the greater of the first peak and the second peak output at the second output terminal.

Peak detection methods, apparatus, and circuits

Controllers and methods for controlling power supplies are disclosed herein. An example of a controller includes comparison circuitry operable to compare a switching frequency of the controller to a predetermined switching frequency. Voltage measuring circuitry is operable to measure the output voltage of the power supply. Circuitry is operable to disable at least one component in the power supply in response to the switching frequency being less than the predetermined switching frequency and the output voltage being greater than a predetermined output voltage.

Methods and circuitry for operating switching power supplies based on switching frequency comparison

Flyback converters are disclosed herein. An embodiment of a flyback converter includes a transformer having a primary side and a secondary side. A switch is connected to the primary side of the transformer, wherein the switch controls the current in the primary side of the transformer. A resistance is connected between the switch and a common node. The converter also includes a comparator having a first input and a second, the first input being connected between the switch and the resistor. Driver logic controls the state of the switch, wherein the output of the comparator is coupled to the driver logic. A voltage source is connected to the second input of the comparator. An error amplifier compares the voltage at the second input of the comparator to an adjustment voltage, the output of the error amplifier is coupled to the driver logic.

Circuits and methods for constant output current in a flyback converter

A DC-DC converter includes a power switching device and a mode control logic circuit to control the power switching device and generate an ON-pulse. A flip-flop is configured to be set by the mode control logic circuit. A current mode comparator is configured to reset the flip-flop and to compare a signal based upon current flowing through the power switching device with a signal based upon an output voltage of the dual mode flyback DC-DC converter. A transformer is driven by the current mode comparator. The mode control logic circuit includes a timer starting when a gate driver control signal applied to the power switching device turns the power switching device off and configured to generate a pulse when an off time interval elapses, a zero current detector circuit configured to sense a voltage on the transformer and generate a pulse when the voltage drops below a trigger threshold, and a combinatory logic circuit configured to compare pulse signals generated by the timer and the zero current detector circuit and generate the ON-pulse based thereupon.

Dual mode flyback converter and method of operating it

A threshold comparator with hysteresis includes a comparator circuit, having a first input, for receiving an input voltage, a second input, and an output, which supplies an output voltage having a first value and a second value. A current generator, controlled by the output voltage, supplies a current to the first input in the presence selectively of one between the first value and second value of the output voltage. A selector circuit connects the second input of the comparator circuit to a first reference voltage source, which supplies a first reference voltage, in response to first edges of the output voltage, and to a second reference voltage source, which supplies a second reference voltage, in response to second edges of the output voltage, opposite to the first edges.

A switching power supply includes input terminals, which receive a first voltage, and a switching converter stage, provided with a first switching device. The power supply further includes a second switching device, connected between the input terminals and the switching converter stage, and an activation device, associated with the second switching device for controlling the second switching device so as to limit a second voltage applied to the switching converter stage.
