This invention relates to a defoamer composition comprising (a) hydrophobic silica; (b) a linear polysiloxane having end-blocked polyoxypropylene groups; (c) a polysiloxane having a pendant polyoxypropylene group; (d) a nonionic surfactant; and preferably (e) an inert diluent. The defoamer compositions are used in paints and coatings.

This invention relates to a water-based coating comprising as separate components (A) a grind component comprising in admixture (1) a water compatible overbased alkaline earth alkyl-aryl sulfonate; (2) an organic amine; and (3) an inorganic borate corrosion inhibitor; and (B) a liquid component comprising (1) water; (2) an acrylic emulsion; (3) an organic amine. The coatings are particularly useful for coating ferrous metal surfaces.

Water-based soft coating for metals

This invention relates to a soft coating for ferrous metal surfaces tanks, having a thickness of about 1-10 mils, comprising over-based alkaline aliphatic-aromatic organic sulfonate salt, an alkaline earth metal or zinc salt of a naphthalene sulfonate, a drying oil, a metal drier, and a paraffinic oil. The coating is particularly useful for coating ferrous metal surfaces, such as ballast tanks, which are exposed to seawater. The invention also relates to a process for inhibiting the corrosion of ballast tanks.
