A method for assessing polymeric additive content A in a polymeric particle mixture may comprise determining a concentration B of a metal cation in a polymeric particle mixture comprising parent polymeric particles and polymeric additive particles, wherein the metal cation is selected from alkali earth metals and alkali metals, other than sodium (Na), and the metal cation is capable of forming a water-soluble base; determining a concentration C of the metal cation in the parent polymeric particles; determining a concentration D of the metal cation in the polymeric additive particles; and calculating a polymeric additive content A using formula A=(B&#x2212;C)/D.

The present disclosure provides a bio-based, branched polyester resin comprising the condensation product of a hydroxyl donor, including glycerol carbonate, and a cyclic polyhydroxyl acceptor, such as abietic acid, neoabietic acid, palustric acid, levopimaric acid, dihydroabietic acid, pimaric acid, and isopimaric acid, that may be used with a polyacid, including fumaric acid, maleic acid, succinic acid, itaconic acid, dodecylsuccinic acid, glutaric acid, adipic acid, pimelic acid, suberic acid, azelaic acid, and dodecane diacid, to form a polyester useful in manufacturing toner for imaging devices.

Bio-based branched resins for toner

Disclosed are processes for the preparation of rosin diols accomplished by the reaction of a rosin acid with a glycerine carbonate in the presence of a catalyst, and subsequently where the rosin diol can be reacted with a diacid to generate an amorphous polyester resin.

Polyester processes

An economical and environmentally friendly method for producing waxes. In particular, the methods use thermolytic degradation concurrently with a distillation process to obtaining distilled waxes from recycled polyethylene. The resulting waxes have desirable properties, such as reduced molecular weight and narrow polydispersity, that makes the waxes useful in various applications.

A method for preparing toner particles is disclosed. In embodiments, a suitable method includes aggregating a mixture comprising at least one resin, an optional pigment and an optional wax to form aggregated particles, freezing aggregation of particles by adjusting the pH of the aggregated particles to a freezing aggregation pH; coalescing the aggregated particles to form toner particles at a first pH that is higher than the freezing aggregation pH; and recovering the toner particles.

In other embodiments, the small crystalline molecule is biodegradable and can be made using raw materials derived from renewable resources. A process for making silica-containing latex particles involves polymerizing monomer in an emulsion comprising the monomer, water, silica particles, and optionally at least one surfactant, by adding at least one free radical initiator to the emulsion to form the silica-containing latex particles. In a preferred method, semicontinuous polymerization employing a seed latex is used to form the latex resin. The process achieves a silica-containing latex in which the silica is chemically incorporated therein that is ideally suited for use in the manufacture of toner and developer for xerographic use.
