Water soluble or water dispersible terpolymers are employed in high pressure steam generating systems to control deposit formation and contaminant transport in the aqueous medium in such systems. The terpolymer may comprise repeat units formed from acrylic acid, allylalkoxylated ethers, and allylhydroxylated alkyl ether.

Method of controlling scale in steam generating systems

Methods and compositions are provided for corrosion inhibition treatment of aqueous systems such as cooling water systems. The methods include conjoint use of a polyvalent metal ion, such as Al or Mn and a corrosion inhibitor/deposit control agent (DCA) to the water system. The corrosion inhibitor DCA agent may be an organic compound such as a hydroxyacid, phosphonocarboxylic acid, polyhydroxysuccinic acid, or polymaleic acid or anhydride.

Compositions and methods for inhibiting corrosion in aqueous media

Methods are provided to inhibit corrosion of metals in contact with aqueous systems such as cooling water systems. In accordance with the methods, a hydroxyacid compound and orthophosphates are used to treat the system. Lecithin and 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3 diol (BNPD) are used to inhibit corrosion in boiler steam condensate systems. Aqueous steam condensate corrosion inhibiting compositions of these components are also disclosed. BNPD is also used as a preservative in lecithin containing and in other GRAS additive containing compositions.

Steam condensate corrosion inhibitor compositions and methods

A corrosion monitoring device for monitoring corrosion in fluid containing systems and other equipment exposed to a corrosive environment comprising sensor elements having a composition substantially the same as the equipment being monitored, the sensor elements having a predetermined thickness for exposure to a corrosive solution of the fluid containing system. An electrical property of the monitoring device changes when corrosion penetrates through the thickness of the sensor element. A digital output device generates a first binary signal when corrosion has not penetrated through the thickness of the sensor elements, and a second binary signal when corrosion has penetrated through the thickness of the sensor elements. Multiple sensor elements may be used to provide multiple binary signals. Information from the digital outputs may be processed to provide a cumulative log of corrosion measurements.
