Cyanoacrylate compositions, methods for forming same, and applications thereof are disclosed. The compositions demonstrate improved thermal ageing performance, including improved tensile strength performance after heat ageing in high humidity.

Cyanoacrylate compositions

This invention relates to cyanoacrylate-containing compositions that include (a) a beta-alkoxy cyanoacrylate component, (b) a cyanoacrylate component selected from butyl cyanoacrylates, octyl cyanoacrylates, and combinations thereof; (c) a rubber toughening component (d) a surface modified component; and (e) an adhesion promoter. Cured products of the inventive cyanoacrylate compositions demonstrate improved toughness without an odor typically found with cyanoacrylate-containing compositions.

This invention relates to cyanoacrylate compositions that include, in addition to the cyanoacrylate component, a compound embraced by structure A: where D is independently a member selected from O or S, and A is independently a member selected from hydrogen, linear, branched or cyclic alkyl groups having from 1 to about 20 carbon atoms, alkenyl groups having from 2 to about 20 carbon atoms, alkynyl groups having from 2 to about 20 carbon atoms, and aryl groups having from 6 to about 20 carbon atoms, with or without interruption or substitution by a member selected from halogen, silicon, hydroxy, ester, and sulfate, provided that at least one A is not H and that at least one A has at least one carboxyl group attached thereto.

The present invention relates to thickened cyanoacrylate compositions, such as those in gel or non-flowable forms. More particularly, the present invention relates to non-flowable cyanoacrylate compositions which can be packaged in a convenient pocket-sized applicator dispenser for use in spreading the cyanoacrylate compositions onto substrates.

The invention provides a method of forming a monolayer of substantive particles including the steps of applying to a substrate a curable composition having substantive particles contained therein, the substantive particles having a particle size on at least one dimension thereof of at least 1 micrometer and being in two or more groups of different sizes; exposing the substantive particle-containing curable composition to a source of energy suitable for effecting polymerization of the curable composition for a sufficient time to effect polymerization of a layer of the curable composition having a thickness of no more than 50% of the height of the largest substantive particles; and optionally, removing uncured curable composition. The invention also provides a method of forming a monolayer of substantive particles in a non-random array where the curable composition comprises a ferrofluid composition. The latter method further comprises the step of subjecting the particle-containing curable ferrofluid composition to a magnetic field for a sufficient time to array the particles in a non-random manner in the composition prior to the exposure.

The present invention provides a new class of materials effective as curatives for anaerobic adhesive compositions. The addition of these materials into anaerobic adhesives as a replacement for conventional curatives, such as APH, surprisingly provides at least comparable cure speeds and physical properties for the reaction products formed therefrom.

Auto-oxidation systems for air-activatable polymerisable compositions

The present invention provides a variety of interrelated methods of coating non-random and ordered arrays of particles, as well as films containing such arrays. The present invention also relates to the coated non-random and ordered arrays of particles and films prepared therefrom. The coated non-random and ordered arrays are obtained by the use of ferrofluid compositions which may be curable. The arrays and films may contain electrically-conductive particles useful in electronic applications for effecting contact between conductors.
