A system for increasing the security of road users. The system includes motor vehicles, each having a security device that can be activated by an activation signal associated with a security assistance request. The system includes a mobile communication device for transmitting position-data and a selected security assistance request. The system includes a control device for receiving the security assistance request and the acquired current position-data and for transmitting activation signals associated with the security assistance request to an assisting motor vehicle. The control device is configured to specify the one assisting motor vehicle also depending on the acquired current position-data and the security assistance request.

In accordance with various exemplary embodiments, the present disclosure describes methods and systems for detecting steering wheel contact by a user. A test signal may be transmitted to a power assisted steering system of a vehicle, where the test signal may apply torque to the steering wheel of the vehicle. A torque sensor may then receive measurements signals indicative of steering wheel torque. The torque indicated by the measurement signals may be compared to an expected torque. Based on the comparison, it may be determined whether the user is in contact with the steering wheel.

Method and system for detecting steering wheel contact

A system or method for steering support for a vehicle with a start-stop system is configured to temporarily switch off a running internal combustion engine at the beginning of a stop phase and to restart the internal combustion engine at the end of the stop phase. An electric motor of the steering support is operated with accumulated electric current during the stop phase. Consumption of the accumulated current is monitored from the beginning of the stop phase with future consumption of current by the electric motor estimated based on consumption during previous stop phases. The steering support is configured so that supply of the accumulated current to the electric motor during the stop phase can be regulated as required on the basis of the estimated future consumption of accumulated current by the electric motor.
