The job may be printed using a combination of mapped default and received print job commands. The match between received print job commands and default print job commands may be determined by identifying a source print driver identity. The source print driver can be identified in response to parsing PJL commands received with the print job. Then, the method selects a table in response to determining the source print driver identity and accesses the selected table for default print job commands that have been cross-referenced to received print job commands.

The alternate presentations may include corrections to compensate for colorblindness of an identified user. The document image may be logically segmented to identify objects associated with each of a plurality of segments of the document image such as text, graphics, photographic images, etc. The color correction profile may define different color correction parameters to be associated with each defined type of segment.

A system and method are provided for delivering document print instructions in a system of network-connected devices. The method comprises: accepting printer control data at a network-connected email address; generating the printer-controller form in response to the printer control data; calling the printer-controller form; populating printer-controller form parameters; attaching a document to the printer-controller form; emailing the printer-controller form, with attachment, to a network-connected printer; and, printing the attached document in response to the printer-controller form parameters. Printing the attachment in response to the printer-controller form parameters includes the printer: opening the emailed printer-controller form; parsing the printer-controller form parameters; and, printing in response to the parsed parameters. In some aspects of the method, the printer-controller form is saved at a network-connected server, and calling a printer-controller form includes accessing the form from the server. Alternately, the printer-controller form is generated by the printer and delivered, via email.

Printing systems, softwares and methods permit an untrained user to characterize unknown printing media. A printing system includes a printing device that prints on a medium according to settings. The printing system also includes an interface, and a controller for controlling the settings responsive to inputs from the interface. The controller has an on line mode for printing while the settings are unchanging, and an off line mode for calibration of the settings. While in the off line mode, the controller is adapted to identify a plurality of calibration values for the setting. The controller is further adapted to control the printing device to iteratively set the setting of the printing device according to one of the first calibration values and then print a sample image. This may take place for all the calibration values. Having the sample images, the user selects the best one, and enters its a characteristic number. That number is interpreted to derive the preferred calibration value for the setting. The user may repeat the procedure for each of the various settings.
