Disclosed is a surface treatment agent for aqueous ink receiving media such as ink jet recording paper, printing sheets, coating materials and so on. The surface treatment agent according to the invention comprises a water-based resin and a carboxylic acid-containing hydrophilic sulfopolyester which provides superior adhesion and water resistance. With the superior adhesion properties, the surface treatment agent can be directly coated on substrates without the inconvenience of primer coating. The surface treatment agent of the invention is suitable for aqueous ink jet printing, coating, or recording media, particularly those of ink jet printers and ink jet plotters.

The synthesis of a high-molecular weight phosphorus-containing polyester flame retardant is disclosed. A metal complex is selected as the catalyst to catalyze the addition reaction of phosphorus compounds and unsaturated dicarboxylic acids in the presence of saturated dicarboxylic acids and diols at a relatively lower temperture in one single reactor to form phosphorus-containing diacids, followed by esterification and polymerization to complete the process.

The synthesis of a non-halogen flame retardant oligomer containing highly pendnat phosphorus moieties is disclosed. Diols, unsaturated double bond-containing dicarboxylic acids or acid anhydrides and saturated dicarboxylic acids or acid anhydrides are first esterified to form an oligomeric unsaturated polyester, and then a phsophorus-containing compound is grafted onto the oligomeric unsaturated polyester through addtion reaction in the presence of a selected metal complex catalyst.

Highly pendant phosphorus-containing reactive oligomer flame retardant

A heat resistant phosphorus-containing polymeric flame retardant and a process for preparing the same are disclosed. The process is characterized in that in polycondensation a selected metal salt serving as cocatalyst is used to catalyze a phosphorus-containing compound, a saturated dicarboxylic acid or the derivatives thereof, and a diol to form a high phosphorus content, high molecular weight flame retardant. The selected metal salts can promote the polymerization of phosphorus-containing compounds and polyester, and can inhibit side reactions and depolymerization so as to increase the phosphorus content of the resulting products and reduce the manufacturing cost. The flame retardants thus prepared can endure processing at an elevated temperature and thus are suitable for being applied in flame retardant fibers, fabrics, nonwoven fabrics, adhesives, and plastics.

A water retaining adhesive composition prepared by polymerizing and partially crosslinking 100 parts by weight of a 20 to 35 wt % solution of the acrylic polymer with 2 to 5 parts by weight of the amine group compound, amide group compound or amino group compound at a temperature of 20.degree. C. to 80.degree. C.; adjusting the pH value of the resultant partially crosslinked polymer to 6.0 to 7.0; and then sequentially compounding 10 to 40 parts by weight of modifiers and 2 to 5 parts by weight of water retaining agent in the partially crosslinked polymer. The modifier is a polyol, a polyalcohol or a poly(ether alcohol). The water retaining agent is 2-pyrrolidone-5-carboxylate.
