Disclosed herein are scientific instrument support systems, as well as related methods, computing devices, and computer-readable media. For example, in some embodiments, a scientific instrument support apparatus includes chromatogram logic to calculate the square of a retention time and a peak width variance for each of a plurality of peaks in a chromatogram; plate calculation logic to calculate an expected plate number and an observed plate number; and suppressor status logic to determine a suppressor status based on a ratio of the observed plate number to the expected plate number (O/E ratio) and to display the status.

Suppressor device

An electrolytic device includes four channels separated by three charged barriers. The device can be used to suppress an eluent stream containing separated sample analyte ions and/or to pretreat a sample stream containing unseparated analyte ions.

Electrolytic four-channel device and method

An apparatus for treating an aqueous sample stream includes analyte ions. The apparatus comprises an ion exchange barrier; a sample stream flow channel; an ion receiving stream flow channel adjacent to the sample stream flow channel and separated therefrom by said first ion exchange bather. Stationary flow-through ion exchange packing is disposed in the sample flow channel of the same charge as the ion exchange bather. The ion exchange packing comprises a mixture of a first ion exchange portion with strong ionizable groups and a second ion exchange portion with weak ionizable groups of the same charge. Current-efficient suppressor and pretreatment device and method

The present invention provides a new design for high capacity stationary phases for chromatography, for example, ion chromatography. The stationary phases include a first polymer layer in contact with and at least partially coating the substrate of the stationary phase. The first polymer layer serves as a foundation for the attachment, and in various embodiments, the growth and attachment, of a highly hyperbranched polymer structure, typically based on one or more products of condensation polymerization. Multiple components are of use in forming the first polymer layer and the hyperbranched polymer structure, thereby providing a stationary phase that can be engineered to have a desired property such as ion capacity, ion selectivity, and the like. Exemplary condensation polymers are formed by the reaction of at least one polyfunctional compound with at least one compound of complimentary reactivity, e.g., a nucleophilic polyfunctional compound reacting with an electrophilic compound.

Multidimensional chromatography apparatus and method

Pretreatment method and apparatus to remove matrix ions from a liquid sample, prior to separation of the sample analytes (e.g. by chromatography), by flowing the liquid sample into a sample compartment and stopping the flow. The sample compartment has a wall comprising an ion exchange membrane having exchangeable ions of the same charge as the matrix ions to be removed. A regenerant liquid stream flows through a regenerant flow compartment on the other side of the membrane from said parked liquid sample. Matrix ions in the parked liquid sample are transported across the membrane into the regenerant flow compartment. Suppression may be performed electrolytically and/or chemically. A concentrator column may also be used.
