A 5G base station transmitter at least partially precodes data for beam forming, and generates digital precoded baseband signals. Cross product circuitry coupled to the digital precoder, generates digital cross products of the digital precoded baseband signals. Both the baseband signals and the cross products are put through digital-to-analog converters (DACs), then provided to an analog non-linear precoder. The analog non-linear precoder combines the analog baseband signals, the cross products, with pre-distortion and precoder coefficients to generate a signal that is pre-compensated for power amplifier non-linearity. The pre-compensated signal is amplified by the power amplifier and transmitted via a phased antenna array. The number of extra DACs required for inserting pre-distortion when a hybrid digital/analog precoder is used can be limited to approximately where Nis the number of outputs of the digital precoder. This is significantly fewer than the number of extra DACs used by other methods.

Predistortion for hybrid digital/analog precoders

A system and method for frequency reuse for wireless point-to-point backhaul. Frequency reuse is enabled through the cancellation of interfering signals generated by interference sources. In one embodiment, a conventional dish antenna is complemented with one or more additional auxiliary antennas (e.g., isotropic). The one or more additional auxiliary antennas enable cancellation of interfering signals whose direction of arrival (DOA) is off the dish antenna's bore-sight.

System and method for frequency reuse for wireless point-to-point backhaul

A circulator based transceiver sharing a common antenna between a receive signal path and a transmit signal path is disclosed. Techniques to reduce coupled transmit signals and coupled transmit noise in a receive signal path, implemented in a variety of embodiments is disclosed allowing elimination of a diplexer, simplification of circulator design and reduction of transceiver cost. The transceiver includes means to generate and couple a correction signal into the receive signal path to attenuate coupled transmit signal in the receive path. Furthermore, the transceiver includes echo cancellation techniques to attenuate transmit noise in the receive signal path. Methods to utilize the transceiver to attenuate coupled transmit signal and transmit noise may improve transceiver efficiency, for example, in demodulation techniques and processing of data signal.

Diplexer elimination in microwave point-to-point FDD systems

A communication apparatus includes transmission circuitry and a frequency conversion unit. The transmission circuitry is configured to down-convert an input Intermediate Frequency (IF) signal using a transmit (TX) Local Oscillator (LO) signal so as to produce a TX baseband signal, to up-convert the TX baseband signal to produce an output Radio Frequency (RF) signal, and to send the output RF signal to an antenna. The frequency correction unit is configured to estimate a frequency of the TX baseband signal or of the input IF signal, and to adjust the TX LO signal based on the estimated frequency so as to cause the transmission circuitry to down-convert the input IF signal to a predefined target frequency.

Carried recovery in re-modulation communication systems

A method for communication includes receiving a signal, which carries data bits and is distorted by multiple impairments including one or more frequency offsets and one or more In-phase/Quadrature (I/Q) imbalances. A corrected signal is produced by applying to the received signal a sequence of corrections to compensate for the impairments. The sequence includes a first and a third correction of one correction type and a second correction of another correction type intervening between the first and third corrections in the sequence, the correction types consisting of frequency offset corrections and I/Q imbalance corrections. The data bits are extracted from the corrected signal.
