An apparatus for communication includes a transmission chain, an interference suppressor and a reception chain. The transmission chain is configured to transmit a transmitted signal. The interference suppressor is configured to produce suppression signals, by filtering reference signals drawn from the transmission chain. At least one of the reference signals is filtered in a frequency domain. The reception chain is configured to receive a signal distorted by at least an attenuated and delayed replica of the transmitted signal. The transmitted signal and the received signal are (i) synchronized in time and (ii) each includes one or more subcarriers selected from a common subcarrier-resource. The reception chain is further configured to process the received signal up to selected points, to subtract the suppression signals from the received signal at the selected points to produce an interference-suppressed signal, and to recover data carried in the received signal from the interference-suppressed signal.

Synchronized interference suppression in frequency domain

A transceiver includes a transmission chain, a reception chain, an interference suppression module and a processor. The transmission chain transmits a downstream signal to a communication network. The reception chain receives an upstream signal including (i) upstream transmissions originating by client devices, and (ii) an interference signal created by leakage and reflections of the downstream signal. The reception chain includes a configurable switch for connecting or disconnecting the upstream signal. The interference suppression module applies to the downstream signal a filter response function for generating an interference suppression signal to be subtracted from the upstream signal at a selected suppression point. The processor estimates the filter response function by monitoring the upstream signal while toggling the switch to connect and disconnect the upstream signal, and, sets the switch to connect the upstream signal and configures the interference suppression module to apply the filter response function to the downstream signal.

Estimation of interference suppression filters using selective signal switching

A digital synthesis channelizer includes a memory buffer and circuitry. The memory buffer stores samples of N input signals having a sampling rate Fsi. The N input signals are processed, prior to storing in the memory buffer, by an N-point time-frequency transform module. The circuitry includes at least P filters derived from a Low-Pass Filter whose stopband frequency depends on Fsi. The circuitry is configured to set a sampling time according to a predefined output sampling rate Fso=&#x3bb;&#xb7;Fsi, &#x3bb; being a predefined rate-conversion ratio, to select based on the sampling time one or more filters out of the at least P filters, and using the selected one or more filters, to generate, from at least some of the samples in the memory buffer, a filtered and interpolated output sample of an output signal that sums N digitally resampled by &#x3bb; and frequency-shifted versions of the respective N input signals.

Small-footprint digital synthesis channelizer for multiple narrowband frequency-slices

A digital receiver includes a memory buffer and circuitry. The memory buffer stores samples of an input signal having a sampling rate Fsi. The circuitry includes P filter-families that each includes N filters derived from a prototype Low-Pass Filter (LPF) whose stopband frequency depends on an output sampling rate Fso=&#x3b1;&#xb7;Fsi. The circuitry is configured to set a sampling time according to Fso, to select, based on the sampling time, multiple filter-families out of the P filter-families, and to construct, based on the N filters in each of the selected filter-families, N interpolated filters that are each aligned to the sampling time. The circuitry is further configured to calculate N filtered samples by applying the N interpolated filters to the samples in the memory buffer, and to generate a sample for an output signal of a frequency-slice of the input signal, by digitally down-converting the N filtered samples.

Small-footprint digital receiver for extracting narrowband frequency-slices

A method includes, in a receiver, receiving a superposition of multiple signals originating from multiple transmitters. A symbol interval of the superposition is transformed in the receiver into a frequency domain. A start time of the symbol interval to be transformed is set in accordance with a criterion that reduces Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) in the transformed symbol interval. At least one of the multiple signals is demodulated in the receiver using the transformed symbol interval.

Time tracking schemes for reduced ISI in multi-transmission-point OFDM  systems

A method in a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) transmitter includes selecting a transmission mode from a group of modes including a spatial multiplexing mode and a transmit diversity mode. A rate matching parameter is set depending on at least the selected transmission mode. Data for transmission is formatted in one or more transport blocks, each transport block including multiple code blocks having respective lengths, in symbols, that are respective integer multiples of the rate matching parameter. The code blocks of a given transport block are mapped onto time-frequency resource elements in accordance with the selected transmission mode, such that each resource element contains data originating from only a respective one of the code blocks of the given transport block. The code blocks of the given transport block are transmitted over the time-frequency resource elements to a receiver.

Transmission-mode-aware rate matching in MIMO signal generation

A method includes, in a mobile communication terminal, receiving signals from a base station in a sequence of time frames. Based on the received signals, a classification of the time frames into first and second types is determined in the terminal, such that a level of interference in the time frames of the first type is lower than the level of interference in the time frames of the second type. The received signals are decoded based on the time frames and the corresponding classification.

Signal decoding in the presence of almost-blank subframes (ABS)

A method includes receiving a signal via multiple receive antennas. A noise covariance matrix, which indicates noise correlations between pairs of the receive antennas, is estimated. A stability criterion defined over the noise covariance matrix is evaluated, and the noise covariance matrix is modified when the stability criterion is violated. The received signal is processed using the modified noise covariance matrix.

Validation and stabilization of noise matrices

A method includes, in a mobile communication terminal, receiving a signal including multiple instances of a synchronization signal transmitted in multiple respective time periods, wherein each instance is precoded with a respective precoding scheme that is selected from a set of precoding schemes in accordance with a precoding alternation pattern. A subset of the instances of the synchronization signal is selected, in accordance with an instance selection pattern that ensures that at least one of the instances of the synchronization signal is received in the terminal with at least a predefined quality. Only the instances belonging to the selected subset are decoded.

Enhanced reception of precoding vector switching (PVS)

A method includes holding in a memory of a communication terminal multiple predefined vectors, each including signal autocorrelation values computed for a respective Doppler shift. A signal is received, and empirical autocorrelation values are calculated for the received signal. An actual Doppler shift of the received signal is estimated by selecting, from among the predefined vectors, a vector whose autocorrelation values best match the empirical autocorrelation values of the received signal.

Aspects of the disclosure can provide a method and an apparatus to decode a data stream based on multiple transmissions with efficient usages of storage and power resources. The method can include receiving a first plurality of encoded code blocks corresponding to a first transmission of a transport block, decoding the first plurality of encoded code blocks into decoded code blocks, error detecting the decoded code blocks, and storing a decoding history of the decoded code blocks. Further, the method can include receiving a second plurality of encoded code blocks corresponding to a retransmission of the transport block. The second plurality of encoded code blocks can map the first plurality of encoded code blocks, respectively. The method can selectively decode a subset of the second plurality of encoded code blocks based on the decoding history. In addition, the method can include storing soft bits for code blocks that failed decoding.

Method and apparatus for decoding

A method in a communication system, in which multiple transmitters transmit respective control messages to a receiver over a control channel, includes allocating respective resources of the control channel to the control messages so as to cause a respective likelihood of interference between a control message and at least one other control message to be inversely related to a respective impact of the interference between the control message and the at least one other control message on an overall performance measure defined for the communication system, by allocating a dedicated resource to a first control message for which the interference has a high impact on the overall performance measure, and allocating a shared resource to a second control message for which the interference has a low impact on the overall performance measure. The control messages are transmitted from the transmitters over the control channel using the allocated resources.

Methods and systems for control-channel resource allocation in multi-user communication systems

A mobile user equipment includes a user equipment clock and a dual mode time tracker. The clock periodically wakes up the user equipment. The dual mode time tracker uses a serving cell reference signal to correct timing errors of the user equipment clock with respect to a network clock while timing errors remain minimal and otherwise uses a serving cell synchronization signal to correct timing errors of the user equipment clock. The dual mode time tracker also sets a next wakeup time as a function at least of the size of the timing errors.
