The system includes a scanner for scanning a photosensitive web for determining defects and producing a signal which provides information with respect to the defect. The system further includes a device for taking the signal and transforming it to a form capable of being placed on the magnetic media; and a recording head for recording the information onto the web. The information read may be used to locate and remove the area of the web containing the defect or advancing the web so that the portion of the web having the defect will not be used.

Photographic elements are formed by (a) coating a first layer on a transparent support from a coating composition comprising an organic solvent, an alkaline aqueous insoluble, organic solvent soluble film forming binder, and a solid particle non-aqueous dispersion of a filter dye which is substantially insoluble in the organic solvent and readily soluble or decolorizable in alkaline aqueous photographic processing solutions at pH of 8 or above, and (b) coating a second layer on the opposite side of the support relative to the filter dye containing layer from an aqueous coating composition comprising a silver halide emulsion. The present invention provides a method to incorporate filter dyes with desired absorbance characteristics for imaging elements, in coating processes that cannot tolerate significant quantities of water.

A radiographic element is disclosed which exhibits high covering power, reduced crossover without emulsion desensitization, reduced wet pressure sensitivity, and can be fully processed in a rapid transport processor in less than 90 seconds. The radiographic is comprised of tabular grain emulsion layers on opposite sides of a transparent film support and processing solution decolorizable dye particles in hydrophilic colloid layers interposed between the emulsion layers and the support.
