A medical device includes an elongate single-wire memory-metal body with a complete length that includes a proximal stylet length, an intermediate self-coiling stylet length, and a distal stylet length that is generally straight and non-self-coiling. The moment of force of the self-coiling stylet length is less than the moment of force of the medical endoscopy needle that is resistant to the stylet's self-coiling force. The device may further include being incorporated into an endoscopy needle system where the single-wire stylet body is disposed through a lumen of a medical endoscopy needle.

A notched tissue-collection needle configured similarly to a fine-needle-aspiration needle is provided with a cutting edge disposed in the notch and configured to excise tissue into the notch for collection. A stylet may be provided through a lumen of the needle during introduction into a patient body. The needle may be provided with echogenicity-enhancing features. A coated-coiled-wire sheath through which the needle is slidably disposed includes an overcoating that is thicker along a distal length and thinner along a mid-section length intermediate the proximal and distal lengths, and may include another thicker proximal-most portion adjacent the handle.

A medical device for collecting cells includes a perforated tube and a brush disposed therein for collecting cells from tissue adjacent the tube. The tube includes a perforated portion and tissue can be drawn into the perforations in response to a vacuum applied to the tube. The brush can be inserted into the tube with the head portion of the brush aligned with the perforated portion to collect cells form the tissue that has been drawn into the perforations by the vacuum. The brush can be removed from the tube and another brush can be inserted to increase cell collection amounts.
