A method and apparatus are described for controlling a highlighting of one of a plurality of operational objects on a display. A spatially continuous movement of a pointing position on the display, which is provided by a user by means of a user input interface is converted in the highlighting of one of the plurality of objects. If the pointing position coincides with one of the plurality of objects, this object is highlighted (). When the pointing position is on empty space between the objects, an appropriate one of the plurality of objects is highlighted (). The parameter used to determine the object to be highlighted is at least the distance from the pointing position to the objects.

Highlighting of objects on a display

A distributed content rendering system has a distributed communication structure () coupled between a stream source and a rendering device. A remote control device of the system has a 'most recent' button. Control information is gathered for one or more streams of which rendering has been most recently started anywhere via the communication structure () before actuation of the 'most recent' button (). When actuation of the &#x201c;most recent&#x201d; button () is detected in association with the rendering device (), one of the one or more streams selected and the information is used to direct that stream at the rendering device () that is associated with the actuated.

Portable control device for controlling playback streams in distributed system

A method of displaying a plurality of items is described. The items are arranged in a plurality of hierarchical levels, each of the hierarchical levels comprises a plurality of sets of items, each set comprising at least one of the plurality of items and each item has associated therewith at least one other item in another hierarchical level. An item within a first hierarchical level is selected (step), at least two sets of items of at least one second hierarchical level (the second hierarchical level being a level lower than the first hierarchical level) are arranged in an order determined by the selected one of the items (step) and the ordered sets of items are displayed (step).
