This invention relates to novel polyisocyanate compositions, to a process for these polyisocyanate compositions, to a process for the production of cold cure flexible molded foams wherein this novel polyisocyanate composition comprises the polyisocyanate component, and to the cold cure flexible molded foams produced by this process. The novel polyisocyanate compositions of the present invention are characterized by an NCO group content of more than about 15%, (preferably from about 20% to less than about 33%, more preferably from about 25% to about 32%), and comprising: (1) from about 70 to 99% by weight of a polymethylene poly(phenyl isocyanate) having an NCO group content of from about 30 to about 33%, and a monomer content of from about 40% to about 90% by weight and (2) from about 1 to about 30% by weight of a prepolymer of diphenylmethane diisocyanate having an NCO group content of from about 2% to about 20%, and comprising the reaction product of: (a) diphenylmethane diisocyanate; and (b) a polyether polyol.

Polyisocyanate compositions and a process for the production of low-density flexible foams with low humid aged compression sets from these polyisocyanate compositions

This invention relates to an improved method for the production of a pour-in-place composite article. These composite articles comprise an exterior covering and a flexible polyurethane foam core. This method comprises inserting a support armature into a pre-sewn exterior covering, positioning an exterior covering in a shaped mold, and applying pressurized gas to the outside surface of the exterior covering at the point directly opposite the position that the reaction mixture will be injected into the mold. The pressurized gas is either applied to the outside surface of the exterior covering either at some point prior to injection of the reaction mixture into the shaped mold, or the pressurized gas is applied simultaneously with the injection of the reaction mixture into the shaped mold. The application of pressurized gas is discontinued once the injection step is completed, allowing the reaction mixture to fully react and expand to conform the composite article to the shape of the mold. The resultant composite article is then removed from the mold.

A novel isocyanate reactive mixture is described which allows for the preparation of energy absorbing foams which meet Chrysler specification DC-640. The reactive mixture contains a) a filled polyol, b) a propylene oxide adduct of a mono-, di-, or trialkanolamine and c) a polyoxyalkylene polyamine. Foams prepared from the reactive mixture are also described.

The present invention is directed to an isocyanate reactive mixture of specified amounts of a) a polyether polyol having a hydroxyl functionality of from 4 to 8 and having a hydroxyl number of from about 300 to about 450, b) a polyether polyol having a hydroxyl functionality of from 4 to 8 and having a hydroxyl number of from about 50 to about 200, and wherein at least 75% of the hydroxyl groups are primary hydroxyl groups, c) an adduct of a mono-, di-, or trialkanolamine and propylene oxide, said adduct having a hydroxyl number of from about 100 to about 800, and d) a polyoxyalkylene polyamine having a molecular weight of from about 2000 to about 5000, and containing from 2 to 3 primary amino groups. The invention is also directed to water-blown, energy absorbing foams made from the isocyanate reactive mixture.
