A knife having a tool in the handle has a blade at one end and a tang at an opposite end. A first handle has a receiving slot disposed and centered lengthwise on the interior surface. A second handle has a receiving slot disposed and centered lengthwise on its interior surface. The tool has two legs that are parallel, and have a thumb stud on one leg. First and second handles are attached to opposing sides of the tang. The tool is inserted into the knife by the legs entering the first and second receiving slots while straddling the tang.

A folding knife has a handle portion and a safety liner with a spring biased portion that slides laterally lodging the end of the spring biased portion under the tang of the knife blade to hold the blade in a safe open position. An adjustment screw has an extended ball surface disposed in a sleeve extending through and attached to one side of the handle and the safety liner. A rotational safety has a safe on detent and a safe off detent for receiving the ball is disposed between the safety liner and the tang of the blade. The blade is secured in the open position by rotating the rotational safety to a safe on position, lodging a safety engagement end under an edge of the spring safety portion of the safety liner and lodging the ball surface into the safe on detent. The adjustment screw is adjusted by to maintain the safety of the knife over time.

A folding knife has a slot disposed in the thickness of the tang with a roller cam extending outside of the perimeter of the tang and rotatably attached within the slot. A safety assembly disposed within the handle has a stud extending through a slot in the handle and moves the assembly between a safe and an unsafe position. In the safe position the safety assembly is forced against the tang thereby preventing opening. An adjustable bias element assists the blade in exiting the blade slot. The bias element is in spring communication with the roller cam. Applying pressure to the stud urges the blade from the closed position as the bias element is centered with the roller cam and the blade is forced to an open position by the spring force of the bias element on the roller cam.

Low friction folding knife

A low friction folding knife has a blade with a distal end and a tang. The tang has a slot disposed in the thickness of the tang with a roller cam extending slightly outside of the perimeter of the tang and rotatably attached within the slot. There is a safety assembly disposed within the first outer handle that has a safety stud extending through a safety slot in the first outer handle for moving the safety assembly between a safe position and a safe off position. There is an adjustable bias element disposed between the first liner and the second liner. The adjustable bias element is positioned to assist the blade in exiting the blade slot.

A knife maintenance apparatus has a substantially rectangular hone body, a length with an open end and a base end, a width, a top surface covered with an abrasive material, and a bottom surface. There is a first hone edge extending along the length of the hone body and has a first radius. The opposite edge has a second radius and is parallel to and approximately the length of the first hone edge. The first hone edge and the second hone edge are approximately the hone body width apart. There is also a rectangular base portion that has a base top surface, a base bottom surface, a base width approximate the width of the hone body. The base portion has a sliding portion adjacent to and parallel to the base top surface. The base portion is hingably attached to the hone body along the base end and has at least one adjustment hole disposed through both the base portion and the sliding portion. There is at least one adjustment pin that extends through the adjustment hole. There is an adjustment arm hingably attached at one end to the open end of the hone body and hingably attached at a second end to the sliding portion. There is at least one knife maintenance tool removeably fixed on the adjustment arm. When the knife sharpening apparatus is in a closed position, the hone body, the base portion, and the sliding portion are substantially parallel. When the hone body is opened, the sliding portion slides along and parallel to the base top surface and can be latched in position by placing the adjustment pin through one of the adjustment holes to lock the hone body at an angle appropriate for sharpening a knife.

Knife maintenance apparatus

The handle of a folding knife has an integral spring biased portion that is biased toward the blade disposed in the center of the handle. The spring biased portion locks the blade in the open position by sliding under the rear of the blade when the knife blade is rotated to the fully open position. This same spring biased portion also locks the blade in the closed position by engaging in a recess in the side of the tang of the blade when the blade is rotated to the closed position. Preferably, the spring biased portion also employs a replaceable wear pin that makes all contact with the blade when rotating between the open and closed positions thereby eliminating the wear on the spring biased portion of the handle which is typically made from a soft, biasable material such as aluminum, zinc, or plastic.

A folding knife having a handle including a first side and a second side spaced apart to define a cavity; a blade including a cutting surface and a tang; and a holding mechanism including a piston adapted to be manually moved and having a first stop element of a first dimension and a first opposing element of a second dimension greater than the first dimension, at least a second stop element fixed on the tang, and at least a second opposing element also fixed on the tang, the first opposing element being adapted to be moved to a hold position when the blade is in one of the closed and open positions, in which the first opposing element seats against the second opposing element, the first stop element substantially engages the second stop element, and the blade is held in the one position.

A folding knife is disclosed. The knife includes a handle; a blade having a tang pivotably connected to the handle allowing pivoting of the blade between a closed position in which the blade extends along the handle, and an open position in which the blade extends away from the handle; a locking element pivotably connected to the handle, wherein the locking element is configured to be pivotable between a first position in which the locking element engages at least part of the tang in a manner preventing pivoting of the blade from the open position to the closed position, and a second position in which the blade is free to pivot from the open position to the closed position; a bias element configured to urge the locking element towards the first position; and a safety assembly mounted for sliding movement along the handle, wherein the safety assembly is movable between a safety position in which the safety assembly engages part of the locking element in a manner preventing pivoting of the locking element relative to the handle, and a release position in which the locking element is free to pivot relative to the handle.

A knife blade is locked by selectively moving a blade locking mechanism into and out of alignment with the end surface of the blade. The blade locking mechanism is replaceably mounted on the free end of a spring formed as a part of one of the side panels. The blade locking mechanism is preferably a disc which seats into a conical recess in the end of the blade.

Blade lock for folding knife

A knife has a folding blade, a blade lock in the form of a leaf spring, and a safety for preventing unlocking of the lock. One form of safety has a carrier in the form of an elongate arm mounted on the knife handle. A stud is positioned on an inside surface of one end of the arm. A contact surface is formed on an outside surface of the arm opposite from the stud. The other end of the arm is pivotably attached to the handle of the knife. The arm may be swung from a release position, unobstructive of the lock, to a safety position in which the presence of the stud prevents unlocking the lock. The carrier may be spring biased toward the release position, and may have limited travel away from the handle to the release position. The carrier may also be a slide or a rotating disk.
