Various communication systems may benefit from push notifications of network information. For example, cellular optimization may be accomplished by selective use of a web technique by applications on network devices, which may further benefit from push notifications that may reduce the need for web requests. According to certain embodiments, a method can include monitoring network service viability for a user or application. The method can also include sending a push message to a user equipment when network service viability is detected for the user or the application.

Application configured triggers and push notifications of network information

Various communication systems may benefit from notifications of network information. For example, cellular optimization may be accomplished by selective use of a data technique by applications on network devices, which may further benefit from notifications that may reduce the need for external data requests, used in coordination with application observations of current network conditions. According to certain embodiments, a method can include monitoring network service viability for a user or application. The method can also include sending a push message to a user equipment when network service viability is detected for the user or the application. The push message can indicate at least one threshold associated with network service viability.

Application based network information maintenance

Various embodiments are described which can serve to increase the cross paging call success rate in joint networks. Resource reservation by a requesting network () in the context of cross paging is described. In general, such resource reservation may be triggered by the occurrence of any one of a variety of events in conjunction with the requesting network determining that a communication session with an AT () is desirable. Examples of triggering events include the following: the AT subscribing for resource reservation as a matter of configuration, the AT having a particular call state and perhaps with regard to particular services, the AT requesting resource reservation (before or after being paged/notified of the requesting network's desire to provide service, the communication session for which the requesting network is requesting the AT is of a particular type, and/or resource reservation is an operational default system operation.

Method and apparatus for cross paging a multi network communication system

A method () and communication device () capable of streamlining call setups to a wireless mobile unit () may include a transceiver () and a controller (). In various embodiments of the invention, the controller detects () a modified request for a communication resource, optionally monitors () a communication system loading parameter, and sends (or) an assignment for a larger than anticipated allocation of the communication resource upon detecting the modified request or when the system loading parameter falls below a predetermined threshold. The controller may also receive () via the larger than anticipated allocation of the communication resource both an anticipated initial data transmission and an initial user data transmission in a first data transmission from the mobile wireless unit.

Method and system for streamlined call setup

An apparatus and method for dynamic group prioritization in a communication network includes a first step () of defining a dynamic list of group participants by an application, such as a dispatch function. A next step () includes sending a request to a Group Management Function, wherein the request includes a requested group priority and the list of group participants. A next step () includes allocating a unique identifier to the group and assigning a group priority to the group. A next step () includes notifying the application, group participants, and network of the unique identifier and the network of the assigned group priority. The assigned priority of the group and its flows can be dynamically altered in real-time while the group is active.

Dynamic group prioritization in communication networks

A device () for dynamically selecting a wireless communication mode for wirelessly communicating information to at least two wireless communication devices () includes a packet data comparator () adapted to compare data packets in multiple data streams, each stream designated for transmission to a different one of multiple destination devices and also to identify at least two of the packets having identical information in at least a portion of the packets. The device () also includes an output () for sending the at least a portion of the packets having the identified identical information to the at least two wireless communication devices in the multicast mode, and also for sending a remainder of the data streams to the at least two wireless communication devices in a unicast mode.

Method and system for utilizing commonality in data streams

A communication device converts a bit stream to multiple symbols and provides encryption at a physical layer by shifting a phase of each symbol of the multiple symbols to produce multiple encrypted symbols. Each encrypted symbol of the multiple encrypted symbols is modulated with an orthogonal subcarrier to produce at least one modulated subcarrier and the at least one modulated subcarrier is then transmitted via a wireless link. On a receive side, a receiving communication device receives the transmitted, encrypted symbols and provides decryption at a physical layer by shifting a phase of each encrypted symbol in correspondence with the phase used to encrypt the symbol at the transmit side.

Method and apparatus for encryption of over-the-air communications in a wireless communication system

Upon detecting () a communication need for a group of communication recipients that entails attempting to make at least one transmission to each of the communication recipients in the group (wherein at least one of the communication recipients has both a scheduled personal communication opportunity and a scheduled group communication opportunity), one automatically uses () whichever of the scheduled communication opportunities occurs first to make the at least one transmission to the communication recipient(s) for which this option applies. System and method for initiating communications between mobile stations

During the course of a push-to-talk talkgroup wireless communication, decisions () are made regarding possible subsequent push-to-talk communication needs for the group. Based at least in part upon such decisions, a network location is identified () to provide talker arbitration support for this talkgroup. In one embodiment the identified network location can comprise a mobile station, such as a mobile station that comprises a member of the talkgroup. In a preferred embodiment, the talker arbitration capability is then assigned () to the identified network location.

Talker arbitration method and apparatus

A server () designates and assigns each of a plurality of communication devices to at least one of a plurality of groups. The server () prepares a communication having presence information corresponding to a status of the communication devices in the group; determines network infrastructure device(s) serving the group; and transmits, at a pre-determined time, the communication to the network infrastructure device(s). A network infrastructure device (--) receives the communication and transmits, as a common channel signal during the pre-determined time, a signal with the presence information. A communication unit () receives an indication of the pre-determined time; transmits, at an interval proximate to the pre-determined time, a signal indicating the communication device's status; and receives, at the pre-determined time, the signal with the presence information.

Providing presence information in a communication network

A system and method for establishing communication with a target mobile station () initiated in part by establishment of a traffic communication channel with a target mobile station (). Responsive to establishing the traffic communication channel, a message is sent by the target mobile station () substantially immediately to a dispatch server () via the traffic communication channel. The message comprises information indicating acceptance of a push-to-talk (PTT) request.
