The present application relates to aziridine functional compounds with reduced genotoxicity and good crosslinking efficiency, for use in the preparation of, for example, coatings.

Aziridine functional compound

The present invention relates to an aqueous dispersion comprising dispersed particles comprising a polyurethane comprising at least the following building blocks derived from a) at least one organic polyisocyanate, b) at least one carboxylate group-bearing isocyanate-reactive compound, and c) at least one organic isocyanate-reactive polyol, wherein at least one of the carboxylate group-bearing compounds b) has the following structural formula O II (1) R(R)—N—C—R-COOwherein Ris a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from 2 to 8 carbon atoms or a divalent cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical having from 6 to 8 carbon atoms or a divalent aromatic hydrocarbon radical having from 6 to 8 carbon atoms, Rand Rare 2-hydroxypropyl.

Water-dispersible polyurethane

The present invention relates to an aqueous coating composition comprising polyurethane A and vinyl polymer, wherein the polyurethane A comprises as building blocks at least: (a) a polyisocyanate(s) containing at least two cyclic groups, (b) a non-cyclic aliphatic diisocyanate(s) whereby the non-cyclic aliphatic group connecting the two isocyanate groups has from 4 to 36 carbon atoms, and (c) a component(s) containing an isocyanate-reactive group(s), whereby the summed amount of (a) and (b) is 10 to 60 wt. %, relative to the total weight amount of components used to prepare the polyurethane A; and whereby the weight ratio between (a) and (b) is in the range from 50:50 to 99:1.

Aqueous coating composition

Aqueous coating compositions include dispersed polyurethane-vinyl polymer hybrid particles obtained by free-radical polymerization of at least one vinyl monomer in the presence of a polyurethane. The polyurethane and the vinyl polymer in the hybrid particles are present in a weight ratio of polyurethane to vinyl polymer ranging from 1:1 to 20:1, and the polyurethane is the reaction product of at least the following components: (a) from 5 to 40 wt. % of at least one organic difunctional isocyanate, (b) from 0.5 to 4 wt. % of an isocyanate-reactive compound containing ionic or potentially ionic water-dispersing groups having a molecular weight of from 100 to 500 g/mol, (c) from 40 to 80 wt. % of at least one diol having a molecular weight from 500 to 5000, (d) from 0 to 10 wt. % of at least one active-hydrogen chain extending compound with a functionality of at least 2 other than water, (e) from 0 to 10 wt. % of at least one diol having a molecular weight below 500 g/mol. The isocyanate and hydroxy groups on the components used are present in a respective mole ratio (NCO to OH) in the range of from 0.8:1 to 5:1.

Aqueous coating composition with soft touch upon drying

The present invention relates to an aqueous coating composition comprising polyurethane A and vinyl polymer, wherein the polyurethane A comprising as building blocks at least: (a) a polyisocyanate(s) containing at least one cyclic group, (b) a non-cyclic aliphatic diisocyanate(s) whereby the non-cyclic aliphatic group connecting the two isocyanate groups has 5 carbon atoms, and (c) a component(s) containing an isocyanate-reactive group(s), whereby the summed amount of (a) and (b) is 10 to 60 wt. %, relative to the total weight amount of components used to prepare the polyurethane A; and whereby the weight ratio between (a) and (b) is in the range from 50:50 to 99:1.

The present invention relates to an aqueous coating composition comprising dispersed polymer particles, wherein (i) the dispersed polymer particles are polyurethane-vinyl polymer hybrid particles obtained by free-radical polymerization of at least one vinyl monomer in the presence of a polyurethane, (ii) the polyurethane and the vinyl polymer in the hybrid particles are present in a weight ratio of polyurethane to vinyl polymer ranging from 1:1 to 20:1, (iii) the polyurethane is the reaction product of at least the following components: (a) from 5 to 40 wt. % of at least one organic difunctional isocyanate, (b) from 0.5 to 4 wt. % of an isocyanate-reactive compound containing ionic or potentially ionic water-dispersing groups having a molecular weight of from 100 to 500 g/mol, (c) from 40 to 80 wt. % of at least one diol having a molecular weight from 500 to 5000, (d) from 0 to 10 wt. % of at least one active-hydrogen chain extending compound with a functionality of at least 2 (other than water), (e) from 0 to 10 wt. % of at least one diol having a molecular weight below 500 g/mol, where the amounts of (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e) are given relative to the total amount of components used to prepare the polyurethane from which the building blocks of the polyurethane are emanated, and where the isocyanate and hydroxy groups on the components used to prepare the polyurethane are present in a respective mole ratio (NCO to OH) in the range of from 0.8:1 to 5:1, preferably from 1.05:1 to 5:1 and even more preferably from 1.1:1 to 3.5:1.

An aqueous polymer composition which when in the form of a film shows excellent elongation at break comprising (i) 5 to 30 wt. % of polyurethane where the acid value of the polyurethane is between 3 to 40 mg KOH/g; (ii) 70 to 95 wt. % of vinyl polymer comprising 20 to 90 wt. % of vinyl polymer with Tg&#x3c;20&#xb0; C.; 10 to 80 wt. % of vinyl polymer with Tg&#x2265;20&#xb0; C.; where at least one of the vinyl polymers contains acid functional groups with acid value in the range of from 15 and 240 mg KOH/g.

Aqueous composition with improved elongation at break

The present invention relates to a radiation curable aqueous coating composition comprising a dispersion of a chain extended polyurethane which dispersion comprises (a) a polyurethane-urea polymer comprising (i) acryloyl groups present in an amount of at least 2.0 mmol per g of the polyurethane-urea polymer; and (ii) urea groups present in an amount of at least 0.35 milli-equivalents (meq) per g of the polyurethane-urea polymer; (b) optionally a multifunctional ethylenically unsaturated compound unreactive towards isocyanates, in an amount, where present, of up to 40% by weight of components (a) and (b); and (c) a neutralizing agent; where the polyurethane-urea polymer (component (a)) is obtained by (I) the reaction of at least the following polyurethane precursors: at least one polyisocyanate (a1), two or more polyols (a2) and at least one isocyanate reactive compound (a3) to obtain a polyurethane prepolymer, where the isocyanate and hydroxy groups on the polymer precursors (a1), (a2) and (a3) are present in a respective mole ratio (NCO to OH) of at least 1.35, and (II) by reacting the polyurethane prepolymer with an active hydrogen chain extending compound and optionally with water to obtain the polyurethane-urea polymer (a), where (a1) the amount of polyisocyanates (a1) is from 10 to 80% by weight; (a2) the two or more polyols being an Anionic Polyol A, a Polyether Polyol B and optionally a High MW NCO-Reactive Polyol C and optionally a Low MW NCO-Reactive Polyol D; (a3) the isocyanate reactive compounds are compounds having an average of less than 1.2 groups reactive towards isocyanate and an average of at least one acryloyl group, the compounds being other than (a2A), (a2B), (a2C) and (a2D) and where the amount of isocyanate reactive compound is from 5 to 60% by weight; where the weight % of components (a1), (a2A), (a2B), (a2C), (a2D), (a3) and (b) are calculated based on the total of components (a) and (b) being 100%.

Polymeric composition

There is described an aqueous urethane acrylate copolymer dispersion comprising a) from 10 to 95 wt-% of a polyurethane copolymer, and b) from 5 to 90 wt-% of a polyvinyl copolymer, where vinyl copolymer (b) comprises from 30 parts to 100 parts by weight of biorenewable monomer(s)&#x2014;such as itaconic acid, itaconate diesters and/or diamides for example dimethyl itaconate (DMI) or dibutyl itaconate (DBI) and where optionally the composition has a residual monomer level of less than 5000 ppm.

Polymer, process and composition

An aqueous emulsion coating composition comprising an autoxidisable vinyl oligomer having &#x2267;20 wt % of unsaturated fatty acid residue; Tg from &#x2212;50 to +15&#xb0; C.; Mw from 2,500 to 40,000 g/mol; polydispersity from 2 to 12, said composition having &#x2266;15% co-solvent by weight of solids, &#x2266;13% NMP by weight of solids &#x2267;38% solids by weight of composition; said composition when in the form of a coating having a telegraphing value defined as the difference in gloss at a 20&#xb0; angle of between a film cast on rough PVC and a film cast on smooth PVC of 10 gloss units.

Coating composition comprising autoxidisable component

An aqueous solution coating composition comprising an autoxidizable polyvinyl polymer having &#x2267;20% of fatty acid residue by weight of polymer; Tfrom &#x2212;60 to +15&#xb0; C.; acid value of 15 to 75 mg KOH/g, Mfrom 2500 to 100000 g/mol; polydispersity &#x2266;30, said composition having &#x2266;25% co-solvent by weight of solids, &#x2267;30% solids by weight of composition; said composition when in the form of a coating having a telegraphing value defined as the difference in gloss at a 20&#xb0; angle of between a film cast on rough PVC and a film cast on smooth PVC of 10 gloss units.

An aqueous coating composition comprising an autoxidizable polyester resin having &#x2267;30 wt % of fatty acid residues; a Tg in the range of from &#x2212;60&#xb0; C. to +35&#xb0; C.; an acid value greater than 15 mg KOH/g and less than 75 mg KOH/g; a Mw in the range of from 2,500 to 100,000 g/mol; the composition having a co-solvent content less that 15 wt % by weight of total composition; a solids content &#x3e;30 wt %; and when in the form of a film, the composition has a telegraphing value of less than 20 gloss units.
