An electromechanical servo gauge includes a displacer on a wire from a drum for causing a torque on the drum, a servo motor coupled by a drive shaft for rotating the drum, wherein a change in a liquid level moves the ESG out of balance, and a force transducer is positioned for measuring the torque on the drum and converting the torque into a physical quantity. The processor implements an automatic friction determination algorithm. A first move moves the displacer in a first direction for &#x2265;1 motor step(s) to a first position and first physical quantity data including a first physical quantity (Q1) is measured by the transducer. Second moving moves the displacer in an opposite direction &#x2265;1 step(s) to reach a second displacer position and second physical quantity data including a second physical quantity (Q2) is measured. A hysteresis measure is determined from the first and second physical quantity.

Friction measurement for electromechanical liquid level gauges

A method includes measuring tensions on a measuring wire coupled to a displacer of a servo gauge. The servo gauge is configured to raise and lower the displacer using a drum around which the measuring wire is wound. Different measured tensions are associated with different segments of the measuring wire. The method also includes calculating or adjusting a measurement associated with material in a tank using the measured tensions to account for a change in a length of the measuring wire. Calculating or adjusting the measurement could include calculating one or more first length adjustments for one or more segments of the measuring wire that are wound around the drum, calculating one or more second length adjustments for one or more other segments of the measuring wire that are unwound from the drum, and combining the first and second length adjustments to identify a final length adjustment.

Apparatus and method for wire length compensation in servo gauge for inventory management application

The invention relates to a method for determining the level L of a liquid within a specified measuring range by means of radar signals transmitted to the liquid surface and radar signals reflected from the liquid surface, comprising the steps of i) transmitting radar signals to the liquid surface in time sequence; ii) receiving radar signals reflected from the liquid surface in time sequence; iii) determining the level L partially on the basis the transmitted radar signals and the reflected radar signals. The invention further relates to a device for determining the level L of a liquid within a specified measuring range, at least comprising a radar antenna disposed above the liquid for transmitting radar signals to the liquid and receiving radar signals reflected from the liquid surface, as well as means for determining the liquid level L on the basis of the transmitted radar signals and the reflected radar signals.
