An alarm access controller is operative to control access to an enterprise network of a communication system responsive to alarms generated by products that are part of a set of internal resources of the enterprise network. In one aspect, the alarm access controller is implemented by a server or other processing element comprising a processor coupled to a memory. The alarm access controller is configured to receive an alarm from one of the products, to identify an external service provider for handling the alarm, and to provide temporary authenticated access of the service provider to the product. By limiting service provider access to an alarm-generating product in accordance with specified time periods or other conditions determined based at least in part on the alarm itself, system security is considerably improved and access control is made more flexible and efficient.

Alarm-driven access control in an enterprise network

Packaging for electrical equipment is disclosed in which metal electrically conductive staples are stapled&#x2014;in contrast to tacked&#x2014;through the packaging to provide an electrical path between the inside and the outside of the packaging. On the inside of the packaging, each staple clutches and is electrically connected to a wire that is connected to a jack on the electrical equipment. This provides an electrical path between the outside of the packaging and the electrical equipment. When the electrical equipment is to be tested or configured, the testing tool is connected to the staples on the outside of the packaging with spring-load clips. This provides as many electrical paths between the testing tool and the electrical equipment as necessary or desirable and for very little cost.

An entry in an authentication database of an enterprise network is activated responsive to generation of an alarm by a corresponding product that is part of a set of internal resources of the enterprise network. A dynamic URL or other resource identifier based on the activated entry is supplied to an external service provider associated with the product. The external service provider is granted access to the product responsive to submission of the resource identifier by the service provider.

Methods and apparatus are provided for controlling a computing device. The behavior of a user of a computing device is observed when the computing device is connected to each of a plurality of networks. A profile is automatically maintained for each of the networks. Each profile contains one or more predefined actions to be performed when the computing device is connected to the corresponding network. The predefined actions are based on the observed behavior. The predefined actions that are recorded in the automatically generated profile and based on the observed behavior can be automatically triggered when the computing device is connected to the network associated with the profile.

A tooltip is updated dynamically as a user continues to hover a cursor over any displayed item for which additional information is available. The initial tooltip is terse or has one type of information, while the updates add more or substitute different information. Tooltips are created dynamically from whatever information is available about displayed items at the time. A client displays a web page, while a server identifies displayed items for which additional information is available, obtains the information, and either provides the information to the client to generate tooltips therefrom or generates the tooltips and provides them to the client.
