A closure system for a drainable ostomy appliance, which appliance includes a body side wall and a non-body side wall sealed to one another to define a collection cavity and a neck portion terminating in a discharge outlet. The closure system includes a first portion on the body side wall having first and second closure members defining a gap therebetween and a second portion on the non-body side wall having third and fourth closure members. In an open state, the neck portion is unfolded. In a closed state, the first closure member is folded onto the third closure member at a loose fold and the first, second and third closure members are folded onto the fourth closure member with the first closure member proximal the fourth closure member at a tight fold to form a seal between the third closure member and the fourth closure member.

Ostomy pouch closure system

A closure system for a drainable ostomy appliance, which appliance includes a body side wall and a non-body side wall sealed to one another to define a collection cavity and a neck portion terminating in a discharge outlet. The closure system includes a first portion on the body side wall having first and second closure members defining a gap therebetween and a second portion on the non-body side wall having a third closure member having an enlarged head portion. In an open state, the neck portion is unfolded. In a closed state, the first closure member is folded onto the third closure member with an edge of the first member engaging the enlarged head through the side wall sheet material, and the first, second and third closure members folded over onto the non-body side wall at a tight fold to seal the discharge outlet.

A drainable ostomy pouch outlet includes a single-piece closure member including at least one transversely-extending fold-line. The at least one transversely-extending fold-lines are configured to facilitate folding up and closing of the outlet. The single-piece closure member may also include at least one axially-extending or slanted fold-lines intersecting the at least one transversely-extending fold-line, configured to facilitate opening of the outlet.

Drainable ostomy pouch

A faceplate assembly for an ostomy pouch system including an invertible stoma collar is provided. The invertible stoma collar protrudes toward a stoma and defines an inlet opening. The invertible stoma collar is formed from a flexible material having an elastic memory, such that the stoma collar hugs the stoma as the stoma is received through the inlet opening, and becomes inverted. The inverted stoma collar has a tendency to regain its original shape, and thus, applies sufficient pressure to seal around the stoma without strangulating the stoma.

An ostomy barrier includes an inlet opening for receiving a stoma and a barrier adhesive including a plurality of thicker portions and a plurality of thinner portions. The plurality of thinner portions are configured and arranged to improve the flexibility of the ostomy barrier.

An ostomy barrier includes an adhesive layer having a body-facing side, a distal side opposite to the body-facing side, and an opening, a seal substantially aligned with the opening, the seal having an aperture configured to receive a stoma therein, and a flexible connector extending between the seal and the adhesive layer to connect the seal to the adhesive layer. The flexible connector formed from a flexible material to allow relative movement between the seal and the adhesive layer.

A faceplate assembly () for an ostomy pouch system () including an invertible stoma collar () is provided. The invertible stoma collar protrudes toward a stoma and defines an inlet opening. The invertible stoma collar is formed from a flexible material having an elastic memory, such that the stoma collar hugs the stoma as the stoma is received through the inlet opening, and becomes inverted. The inverted stoma collar has a tendency to regain its original shape, and thus, applies sufficient pressure to seal around the stoma without strangulating the stoma.

An ostomy pouch and high-performance gas filter assembly therefor, in which the filter assembly includes an envelope defining a filter chamber containing a radial flow deodorizing filter pad. The pad's opposite faces are joined to the inner surfaces of the envelope in such a way that the periphery of the pad is fully exposed within the chamber. A first passage extends through the filter and communicates with a first opening in a wall of the envelope over which a first microporous membrane extends. A second opening extends through the opposite wall of the envelope at a distance spaced laterally from the first opening, and a second hydrophobic microporous membrane extends over the second opening. In a preferred embodiment, the filter pad is oblong in shape and has a second passage spaced laterally from the first passage and communicating with the second aperture.

An ostomy pouch and high-performance gas filter assembly therefore, in which the filter assembly includes an envelope defining a filter chamber containing a radial flow deodorizing filter pad. The pad's opposite faces are joined to the inner surfaces of the envelope in such a way that the periphery of the pad is fully exposed within the chamber. A first passage extends through the filter and communicates with a first opening in a wall of the envelope over which a first microporous membrane extends. A second opening extends through the opposite wall of the envelope at a distance spaced laterally from the first opening, and a second hydrophobic microporous membrane extends over the second opening. In a preferred embodiment, the filter pad is oblong in shape and has a second passage spaced laterally from the first passage and communicating with the second aperture.

A convex adapter for ostomy appliances is disclosed, the adapter including an adapter ring formed entirely of a soft, tacky, moisture-absorbent and swellable, hydrocolloid-containing adhesive material, one that retains its integrity on hydration and is shape-recoverable when compressive forces are removed, and a thin substantially non-stretchable cover film extending over and beyond the convex bodyside surface of that ring. The film is removably attached to the ring and is preferably transparent (or translucent) so that at least the outline of the ring may be seen through it. A flexible but substantially non-stretchable release sheet is removably attached to the opposite pouchside surface of the ring and may be peeled away from the ring during an initial step in the use of the product.

Reformable convex adapter for ostomy appliance

A convex adapter for ostomy appliances, including an adapter ring formed entirely of soft, moisture-absorbent, hydrocolloid-containing adhesive material that retains its integrity on hydration and is shape-recoverable, and a thin stretchable cover film (preferably transparent or translucent) removably covering and extending over and beyond the ring's convex bodyside surface. A flexible but substantially non-stretchable release sheet is removably attached to the opposite pouchside surface of the ring and may be peeled away from the ring during an initial step in the use of the product. With the release sheet so removed, a user may grasp adapter ring and its cover film and reform the ring so that its opening is sized and shaped to match a patient's stoma, after which the reformed adapter ring is adhered to the adhesive faceplate of an ostomy appliance, the cover film is removed, and the combination faceplate/adapter is adhesively secured to a patient's peristomal skin surfaces.

Reformable convex adapter for ostomy appliance and method of use

An ostomy faceplate for a two-piece appliance is disclosed in which the coupling ring is partially recessed into the wafer of the faceplate. The wafer includes a hydrocolloid-containing adhesive layer that is provided with a recess that receives a portion of the coupling ring, thereby resulting in a faceplate of distinctively low profile and enhanced conformability.

A low-profile faceplate assembly for a two-piece ostomy appliance, and a method for manufacturing it, are disclosed. The faceplate includes a wafer of an adhesive skin barrier material and a flexible plastic coupling ring (for detachably coupling the faceplate to an ostomy pouch having a mating ring), and is distinguished by the mounting flange of the coupling ring being embedded within the faceplate.

A faceplate for an ostomy appliance is disclosed in which a unitary release sheet covers both the bodyside (rear) surface of an adhesive skin barrier layer and the surrounding adhesive surface of an outwardly-projecting porous covering layer. The barrier layer is beveled to a feathered outer edge and the release sheet contacts the adhesive surface of the covering layer immediately adjacent the outer edge of said barrier layer. A continuous in-line method for making such faceplates is disclosed.

A low-profile faceplate assembly for a two-piece ostomy appliance, and a method for manufacturing it, are disclosed. The faceplate includes a wafer of an adhesive skin barrier material and a flexible plastic coupling ring (for detachably coupling the faceplate to an ostomy pouch having a mating ring), and is distinguished by the mounting flange of the coupling ring being embedded within the faceplate. The faceplate is made by a convergence of in-line processes taking place simultaneously with an injection/compression molding operation for the skin barrier wafer as disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 5,716,475, thereby eliminating or greatly reducing the assembly labor for the various process steps plus the handling, storing and transferring steps commonly associated with the manufacture of ostomy faceplate assemblies.
