Various embodiments of flanged containers that can be stacked in a nested relationship are disclosed so as to provide uniform spacing between the containers to facilitate reliable denesting thereof. The flanges and/or sidewalls of the containers may be provided with features that facilitate alignment and uniform spacing of the nested containers so that a denesting apparatus can reliably denest the containers. Other containers include sidewalls divided into two sections that serve to stabilize stacked container.

Tool for forming a three dimensional article or container

A container has a base panel, at least one side panel extending upwardly from the base panel, and at least one end panel extending upwardly from the base panel. At least one corner is formed at a junction between the side panel and end panel. A flange extends laterally outward from the upper edges of at least one of the side panel, end panel, and corner. An injection-molded structure extends along at least a portion of the flange, the injection-molded structure includes a base portion adjacent the upper edges of the side wall and the end wall, a distal portion extending laterally outward from the base portion, and an indentation in the distal portion extending along at least a portion of the flange of the container. An apparatus for forming the container and a method of manufacturing are also disclosed.

An apparatus for press forming products having a desired shape from a web is provided. The apparatus includes a cyclically operating blanking section for cutting the web to produce a single blank for each blanking cycle and a cyclically operating forming section for receiving a plurality of single blanks from the blanking section during a first portion of each forming cycle and for press forming the plurality of single blanks into a plurality of three dimensional press formed paperboard products having the desired shape during a second portion of each forming cycle. The forming section includes a die set having a plurality of forming die cavities wherein each of the forming die cavities receives a single blank. The blanking section operates cyclically at a predetermined rate r and the die set of the forming section includes n forming die cavities, the blanking section operating at n cycles for each forming cycle and the forming section operating cyclically at a rate r/n. Additionally, the apparatus is obtainable through the conversion of an existing forming apparatus by retrofit installing an additional die set in vertically stacked relationship with respect to the existing die set of the apparatus and providing a guide means for transferring single blanks into each die during each forming cycle.

A collapsible carton for containing articles such as prepared food and the like, including a plurality of side panels hingedly connected to one another by substantially parallel fold lines is disclosed. A bottom panel formed of a plurality of cooperating end panels hingedly connected to respective side panels and a closure for closing a top opening of the hexagonal carton with the closure being telescopically received within the top opening of the hexagonal carton and frictionally engaged with an inside surface of at least one of the side panels. Additionally, the closure may include a supplemental compartment formed therein for containing articles of a type different than that placed in the main body of the carton. In this case, a supplemental closure is provided which cooperates with the first closure for closing off the supplemental compartment. Preferably, the bottom panel is formed of a plurality of cooperating end panels including a main end panel which covers an entire inner surface of the bottom of the carton and which is hingedly connected to one of the side panels, a secondary end panel hingedly connected to a side panel diametrically opposed to the first mentioned side panel and adhered to an outer surface of the main panel, as well as two pairs of supporting end panels hingedly connected to the remaining side panels with each of said pairs of supporting end panels being adhered to one another and underlie at least a portion of the main end panel when the carton is in an erect condition.

An apparatus for press forming products having a desired shape from a web is provided. The apparatus includes a cyclically operating blanking section for cutting the web to produce a single blank for each blanking cycle and a cyclically operating forming section for receiving a plurality of single blanks from the blanking section during a first portion of each forming cycle and for press forming the plurality of single blanks into a plurality of three dimensional press formed paperboard products having the desired shape during a second portion of each forming cycle. The forming section includes a die set having a plurality of forming die cavities wherein each of the forming die cavities receives a single blank. The blanking section operates cyclically at a predetermined rate r and the die set of the forming section includes n forming die cavities, the blanking section operating at n cycles for each forming cycle and the forming section operating cyclically at a rate r/n.

A grease and oil resistant container useful for baking foods contained therein at elevated temperatures which includes a bottom wall and an upturned side wall extending the periphery of the bottom wall having an inner layer of parchment paper and an outer layer of ovenable paperboard. Preferably, the side wall includes a rim that extends outwardly from the side wall in an arcuate path. The rim may include a peripheral lip which extends downwardly from the rim. The container is formed by deep drawing a flat, circular blank. The blank includes an ovenable paperboard base layer and an inner, food compatible parchment layer. In addition, prior to press forming the blank, a plurality of radially extending pleats are formed circumferentially about the outer area of circular blank which will aid in the formation of a substantially rigid side wall.

An improved heaterboard, and method and apparatus for producing same is disclosed herein. A foil layer is bonded to a paperboard substrate and a circuit path is cut in the foil layer to define a heating circuit. In a preferred method, the circuit is defined by cut scores and short-circuiting across the cut scores is prevented by a reverse scoring operation in which the circuit pattern is scored in the surface of the heaterboard opposite the surface having the foil heating layer thereon. Various heaterboard circuit patterns and an apparatus for forming heaterboards are also disclosed.
