An extruded article is provided having a base element, and rib element attached to the base element along its entire length. The rib element is narrower at its attachment end than at its free end, and is undulated. The article is formed by extruding an extrudable plastic mass having a conformable state and a nonconformable state. The extrusion rate of the free end of the rib element is sufficiently faster than that of the base element causing the free end of the rib element to undulate without distortion as the structure is extruded. The plastic mass is then converted to the nonconformable state while maintaining the undulation in the free end of the rib element.

Method of making extruded article

An article is provided having a plurality of straight spaced parallel extruded elements separated by a regularly undulated extruded element having an aspect ratio of at least about two, with undulations having opposed apexes on either side thereof, with apexes on one side of the undulated element being bonded to one of the parallel extruded elements and the apexes on the other side of the undulated element being bonded to the other of said parallel extruded elements. The article is formed by extruding a first filament-forming extrudable plastic food mass to form a plurality of straight spaced continuous parallel elements, extruding (at a faster extrusion rate and between adjacent parallel elements) a second filament-forming extrudable plastic food mass to form an undulatable element which is thinner than it is wide to provide a cross-section with an aspect ratio of at least about two, causing the undulatable element to undulate in its thin dimension and to bond to the straight spaced continuous parallel elements, and changing or permitting the change of the formed, extruded plastic food mass so that subsequent bonding will no longer occur and so that the elements have sufficient structural integrity to maintain their extruded bonded shape. The food mass may be cereal, pasta or candy.

Extruded article and method of making the same

A friction surface sheet material which may be adherently bonded to the patterned surface of a substrate which permits the visual observation of such pattern when attached. The friction surface sheet material comprises a backing layer formed of a dimensionally stable polymeric film such as polyethylene terephthalate. A first and second coating of the first and second transparent binder material adherently bond a multitude of minute transparent glass particles uniformly dispersed over the upper major surface of the backing layer, with the tops of the glass particles projecting above the binder coating to provide a friction surface, and the bottom major surface of the backing layer has thereon a layer of transparent pressure-sensitive adhesive. The glass particles may be glass spheres or fragments obtained by fracturing larger particles of glass. The transparent sheet material of the invention is particularly suited for applying to the surface of skate boards, particularly those which have ornamental surfaces which the owners desire not to obscure.
