A method and apparatus comprising a group of passive sensor systems, an active sensor system, and a processor unit. The group of passive sensor systems is configured to generate first sensor information from light in an environment around the group of passive sensor systems. The active sensor system is configured to send signals, receive responses from the signals, and generate second sensor information from the responses. The processor unit is configured to control the active sensor system to send the signals in a direction toward an object using the first sensor information and generate information about the object using the second sensor information.

A method and system for reducing clutter in a number of images. Sub-image pixel values are identified for a sub-image at a location in an image in the number of images. A first portion of the sub-image pixel values corresponds to a number of suspected target pixels in the sub-image. A second portion of the sub-image pixel values corresponds to clutter pixels in the sub-image. Modeled pixel values are generated using a clutter model fitted to the second portion of the sub-image pixel values. The modeled pixel values are subtracted from the sub-image pixel values to form new pixel values.

System and method for reducing image clutter

A method for determining the amplitude of an infrared object may include receiving an infrared image of the object from a sensor, and expressing the objects infrared amplitude as a function of its position coordinates. The sum of the squared residuals of the objects true infrared response and a model of the objects infrared response may be minimized to determine the centroid of the infrared image. The objects infrared amplitude may then determined based on the centroid location.

Apparatus and methods for infrared resolution of closely-spaced objects are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of determining a set of infrared amplitudes for a set of closely-spaced objects includes receiving an unresolved infrared image of the set of closely-spaced objects, and expressing the set of infrared amplitudes as a function of a set of positions of the closely-spaced objects. The method further includes formulating a set of simultaneous equations at least partially based on the expression between the infrared amplitudes and the set of positions of the closely-spaced objects, and solving the set of simultaneous equations for the set of infrared amplitudes. In alternate embodiments, the set of positions of the closely-spaced objects may be provided by a non-infrared position sensor, or may be iteratively-derived
