Disclosed is a method and apparatus for a combination storage extracting and biasing system. The method and apparatus comprise an enclosure having a first surface and a second surface inside the enclosure. The method and apparatus also comprise at least one random access memory device adapted to be disposed substantially in the enclosure having a third surface and a fourth surface. The device comprises at least one device contact located at the third surface and adapted to be electrically linked with at least one corresponding enclosure contact located at the first surface. The at least one spring member attached to the device and interposed between the second surface and the fourth surface wherein the spring member is adapted for use as a handle to remove the device from the enclosure and to provide pressure on the contacts.

Combination storage extracting and biasing system

Described herein is a mobile data storage magazine for interacting with a docking station. The magazine can include a magazine frame containing a plurality of operatively interconnected disk drives, a first contact element associated with the magazine frame capable of conducting electrical power to at least one of the plurality of disk drives when engaged with a second contact element associated with the docking station wherein the first and second contact elements are adapted to cooperate in a non male/female relationship. The magazine can further comprise a first communication element capable of conducting data between at least one of the plurality of disk drives and the docking station when the first communication element is operatively linked to a second communication element associated with the docking station.

Disclosed is a method and apparatus system for aligning a multi-unit storage system. The alignment system for a storage apparatus includes a first and second storage unit which includes media support locations. The media support locations are capable of supporting at least one storage media element and at least one storage device adapted to store and retrieve data to and from the storage media element associated with at least one of the storage units. The storage apparatus further includes at least one robotic system, an alignment indication device and an alignment means capable of positioning the first and second storage unit substantially in alignment for the robotic system to access the media support locations and the storage device wherein the alignment means cooperates with the alignment indication device to confirm the positioning is in alignment.

Alignment system method and apparatus for multi-unit storage systems

An apparatus for translating and rotating a cartridge (such as an optical disk cartridge) which utilizes a U-shaped rack engaged with a non-translating (but rotating) pinion, a carrier for the cartridge connected to the rack, and a motor for spinning the pinion on its axis. The apparatus enables the cartridge to be inserted with a shutter face forward, and translates and rotates the cartridge into the final (loaded) position with the shutter face in the opposite direction.

A disaster alert system is disclosed which consists of two major sub-systems. The first sub-system is a central disaster alert station which transmits coded R.F. activation signals specifying the geographic area and/or the official personnel to be alerted. Said central disaster alert station also transmits audio signals containing the disaster warning message to be disseminated to potential disaster victims and/or pre-selected official personnel. The second and companion sub-system consists of a plurality of independent and remotely located disaster alert modules which can be placed in any location to which disaster alert information is to be disseminated. Said disaster alert modules operate on continuous low-power standby, receiving and analyzing R.F. signals of a pre-determined carrier frequency and bandwidth. In the absence of said coded activation signal, said disaster alert modules remain in low-power standby. Detection and decoding of said coded activation signals results in activation of the module main power circuits. Activation of main power circuits results in a plurality of module outputs, including but not limited to, production of a clearly audible alarm signal, display of a clearly visible alarm signal, reproduction of the audio message, and activation of desirable auxiliary units equipped with said modules, such as, but not limited to, television receivers, public address systems, and civil defense sirens. Specially designated disaster alert modules located on or near roadways produce, upon similar activation, conspicuous alarm signals, and display disaster alert information on road signs. Said disaster alert modules operate on self contained battery power with means provided for continuous or occasional re-charging from A.C. lines. Said disaster alert modules remain operative in the event of A.C. power failure. The low-power standby mode is intended to conserve energy and maintain extended battery life, and to preclude discernible outputs when no disaster conditions exists.

Disaster alert system

An Early Flood Warning System provides advanced warning of probable flash floods and/or stage floods to potential flood victims by collecting and analyzing rainfall and stream level data, and by providing means for disseminating alarms and instructions to individuals in threatened areas. Said Early Flood Warning System contains: a plurality of automated electronic digital liquid level gauges, some of which are specially adapted as rain gauges, and some of which are specially adapted as stream level gauges; a plurality of gauge actuated transmitters; a receiver; a decoder and validity logic unit; a data analysis unit; a central disaster alert station; and a plurality of disaster alert modules. Said digital liquid level gauges are energy and environmental intensive devices which electronically measure, using digital techniques, liquid levels such as rainfall and stream level, and transmit data by coded radio frequency (R.F.) signals to a central data analysis facility. Said digital liquid level gauges are remotely located and independent of each other.
