A fiber optic adapter includes a mounting block having a first opening and a through opening extending into the mounting block from the first opening with a seat for receiving a body portion of a fiber optic connector and at least one flexible projection with a first end defining an aperture that is smaller than the first opening. The at least one flexible projection is configured to flex away from a rest position and away from a longitudinal axis of the through opening to allow the body portion of the fiber optic connector to reach the seat and configured to return toward the rest position when the fiber optic connector reaches the seat and to substantially prevent the removal of the fiber optic connector in a direction opposite its insertion direction when the at least one flexible projection is in the rest position.

An optical fiber module includes a plate having a first side, a second side and at least one through opening, a plurality of connection elements at the first side, and a mounting block at the second side that is configured to secure, relative to the plate, at least one second fiber optic connector which has a longitudinal axis, an end, a wide portion and an end portion between the wide portion and the end. The mounting block includes a channel having an enlarged portion configured to receive the wide portion of the at least one second fiber optic connector, and the channel is configured to permit the insertion of the at least one second fiber optic connector in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis while preventing the removal of the at least one second fiber optic connector in any direction parallel to the longitudinal axis.

Fiber adapter modules for use as interfaces at both ends of multi-fiber trunk cables position the channels of plural fiber optic transceivers onto fibers of the trunk cables in an efficient manner, such that normally dark fibers of a trunk cables are utilized. The fiber adapter modules include trunk-side ports for receiving adapters of multi-fiber trunk cables and transceiver-side ports for receiving adapters carrying both transmit channels and receive channels of fiber optic transceivers. Optical interconnections are provided within the fiber adapter modules to place at least one transmit channel or at least one receive channel of a first fiber optic transceiver at a first trunk-side port and to place at least one transmit channel or at least one receive channel of a second fiber optic transceiver at the first trunk-side port.

A fiber optic component includes a body having at least one receptacle configured to receive a fiber optic connector, a shutter base mounted to the body at a mounting location adjacent to the at least one receptacle, and a first shutter connected to the shutter base by a first hinge. The first shutter, first hinge and shutter base are unitarily formed, and the first shutter is shiftable from a first position biased against the body and covering the at least one receptacle to a second position biased to an angularly spaced position relative to the first position.

A fiber optic adapter releasably retains at least one optical fiber connector and includes a body portion having a first side, a second side, and a through-opening between the first side and the second side, a first housing projecting from the body portion first side, the first housing including a bore for receiving the at least one optical fiber connector and having at least one sidewall and an end wall, the housing overlying the through-opening, and a retainer mountable on the first housing and including first and second flexible arms for engaging opposite sides of the first housing to attach the retainer to the first housing, the retainer including at least one projection configured to block the removal of the at least one optical fiber connector from the bore when the flexible arms engage the opposite sides of the first housing.

Optical fiber adapter

Push-pull fiber optic connectors and cable assemblies having a latch that is actuated by a cam surface are disclosed. The fiber optic connectors include a ferrule and a housing having the latch. A shroud fits over a portion of the housing and allows the craft to grab the shroud and push the shroud and hence the fiber optic connector into a suitable adapter or the like. Likewise, the craft can grab the shroud and pull on the same to remove the fiber optic connector out of the adapter or the like. The cam surface is disposed on a decoupling member, wherein the decoupling member is attached to the shroud so the components can move together. Methods of making the push-pull fiber optic connector are also disclosed.

An adapter dust cap comprising a dust cap body defining a clearance extending at least partially therethrough, a resilient member attached to the connector body, and a latching feature attached to the resilient member and configured to engage within internal geometry defined by a connector adapter. The adapter dust cap is translucent so that visible light from a connector may diffuse therethrough, and may include a material or coating thereon for converting light in the invisible spectrum to visible light so that the light can be detected through the dust cap without removing the dust cap from an adapter to which it is engaged.

An optical fiber distribution enclosure includes a housing defining an interior, a first fiber distribution area disposed within an upper portion of the interior, a second fiber distribution area disposed within a lower portion of the interior and a signal splitting area disposed between the fiber distribution areas. A splitter module secured within the signal splitting area has a connectorized splitter input optical fiber and connectorized splitter output optical fibers. A fiber parking area is movably disposed within the lower portion adjacent the second fiber distribution area for temporarily storing splitter output optical fibers that are not routed to the fiber distribution areas. An input fiber distribution area disposed within the interior interconnects an optical fiber of a feeder cable with the splitter input optical fiber. The splitter output optical fibers are eventually routed to a fiber distribution area and interconnected with a corresponding optical fiber of a distribution cable.

A method for assembling an optical fiber connector comprising providing a one piece housing comprising a tailpiece and a body defining a forward first end, a rearward second end and a passage extending longitudinally therebetween, inserting a spring element into the passage through the forward first end, inserting a subassembly comprising a ferrule, a ferrule holder and a lead-in tube into the passage through the forward first end, maintaining the spring within the passage between a shoulder defined by the one piece housing and a flange of the ferrule holder, and inserting a subassembly retainer into the passage through the forward first end.

Optical fiber connector and method of assembly

A multi-fiber ferrule is configured to accept coated optical fibers and an optical fiber ribbon. The multi-fiber ferrule includes an optical fiber receiving portion, a lead-in portion, and an alignment portion. The alignment portion includes a buffered fiber alignment portion to orient and separate buffered optical fibers. The alignment portion may also include a ribbon alignment portion to orient and align the optical fibers of an optical fiber ribbon. As a result, the stripped optical fibers of both the coated optical fibers and the optical fiber ribbon are guided and aligned with the optical fiber bores provided in the optical fiber receiving portion of the multi-fiber ferrule.

A connector is provided for use in fiber to the desk applications. The connector according to the present invention includes a main housing with a passageway therethrough, a ferrule assembly mountable to the main housing, and a splice member. The connector also includes a latch on at least one exterior surface of the main housing to engage a corresponding structure in an adapter sleeve.

A fiber optic cable connector for an optical ribbon comprises a multi-fiber ferrule having a plurality of stub fibers secured therein with ends of the fibers projecting beyond the end of the ferrule. The connector also includes first and second opposed splice members extending lengthwise from a first end proximate the end of the ferrule to an opposite second end, and the ends of the stub fibers extend between the opposed splice members at the first end thereof and are disposed in fiber-aligning grooves formed in the first splice member. The splice members are arranged with a fiber-receiving space therebetween to allow the optical fibers of the fiber optic ribbon to be inserted through the fiber-receiving space such that the optical fibers engage the grooves and are guided by the grooves into optically connected relation with the ends of the stub fibers. The connector further includes a cam movable between an initial position allowing the splice members to move apart to enlarge the fiber-receiving space to facilitate insertion of the optical fibers therein, and a final position in which the cam urges the splice members in the vicinity of the ends of the stub fibers toward each other to clamp the ribbon fibers therebetween. The rear end portion of the second splice member can pivot away from the first splice member to facilitate inserting the ribbon into the connector. A tool for installing the connector in the ribbon is also disclosed.
