In described examples, a method of processing an audio program material includes converting the audio program material into a frequency domain audio program material; increasing or decreasing an energy amplitude of one or more energy troughs in an audio data sample in the frequency domain audio program material, ones of the energy troughs being located between respective ones of one or more pairs of adjacent energy peaks in the audio data sample, the pairs of adjacent energy peaks selected to correspond to frequencies of sounds which were captured to create the audio program material; repeating the increasing or decreasing step for multiple audio data samples in the frequency domain audio program material; and converting the frequency domain audio program material into a time domain audio program material.

Methods and systems for adjusting clarity of digitized audio signals

A microphone support system and a method of manufacturing therefor that substantially isolates a microphone from extraneous vibrations. In one embodiment, the microphone support system comprises a base assembly, a microphone support rod, a microphone sheath, a microphone cable, and a microphone cable sheath. The base assembly is configured to dampen at least some of the extraneous vibrations communicated to the support system. The microphone support rod is coupleable to the base assembly and is configured to support a microphone. The microphone sheath is coupled to the microphone support rod, substantially surrounds the microphone, and is configured to substantially isolate the microphone from at least some of the extraneous vibrations. Furthermore, the microphone cable is coupleable to the microphone, and the microphone cable sheath substantially surrounds the microphone cable and is configured to substantially isolate the microphone cable from at least some of the extraneous vibrations.

Microphone support system

The present invention relates to a transmit diversity antenna system employing active antenna electronics (with both receive and transmit amplifiers distributed among the elements of the antenna), polarization diversity on receive, and polarity diversity along with time delay diversity on transmit. The combination of these three techniques, in wireless communications applications, improves the efficiency and performance of both the transmitted and received signals at a base station, as well as the received signal at the mobile. In practice the present invention enables a substantially &ldquo;balanced link&rdquo; to exist between the base station and a mobile.

Wireless communications system

A network planning tool (NPT) computer program is used to model characteristics of a wireless telephone network ( ). The network contains a plurality of cells ( ) which each include a plurality of sectors ( ) disposed about a base station ( ) that has a respective antenna for each sector. Techniques are provided for modeling smart antennas ( ), including use of a switched-beam transmit and receive patterns with approximately random allocation among the beams of frequencies assigned to an associated sector. In the case of an adaptive beam-forming smart antenna, power levels for that antenna and a remote antenna operating at the same frequency are adjusted so as to increase a differential therebetween by an improvement value associated with the smart antenna. Potential uplink interference at a given base station is modeled by simulating operation of other base stations at an uplink frequency with a reduced power level. Potential interfering signals are discounted to the extent a smart antenna can intelligently reject a limited number of undesired signals.

Method and apparatus for modeling a smart antenna in a network planning tool

Dynamic antenna pattern modification is accomplished with multi-element, multi-column antennas having the radiation pattern controlled dynamically based on the number of users serviced by the sectors of a multi-sector base station. The number of users is determined either directly through information available from the base station, or indirectly by monitoring the system load (number of users). Sectors of the cell servicing fewer users are expanded to accommodate users from portions of an adjacent sector, in the same cell, by modification of the antenna coverage patterns in each sector. The antenna pattern for a sector serving a relatively large number of users, for a given cell radius, would contract in azimuth for both transmit and receive functions and decrease both transmitted output power and received signal sensitivity. Simultaneously, antenna coverage patterns in the adjacent sector (in the same cell) would expand in azimuth to provide the same cell radius, coverage and performance level as prior to the pattern modification.

Adaptive antenna pattern control for a multiple access communication system

An RF phase and/or amplitude control device (40) has a digitally controlled attenuator (41) at it input to adjust the overall output level of the output. The device includes an in-phase power divider (43) for splitting up the input signals over two paths (I and Q). The power divided signals in the two paths are further power divided and shifted in relative phase at 180.degree. hybrids (49 and 50). The power divided and phases shifted signals in each path I and Q are selectively switched using switches (51 and 53). The selected and switched output is quadrative combined at a 90.degree. hybrid (55). This provides a single inexpensive device which can provide digitally controlled output signals which are either phase controlled or amplitude controlled or both.
