A heat-dissipating EMI/RFI shield () has a shield base (), a shield cap (), and a heat sink (). The shield base has at least one sidewall () which defines an open area (). At least one mounting leg () extends from the sidewall and is affixed to a printed circuit board (). The shield cap has a collar () which defines an opening in the shield cap. The shield cap is configured to be mated to the shield base. The heat sink has a boss () extending therefrom. The heat sink is configured to be mated to the shield cap. The boss is configured to protrude at least partially into the opening in the shield cap and to make thermal contact with a selected heat generating component () on the printed circuit board.

Heat-dissipating EMI/RFI shield

A digital card connector assembly () for mounting to a panel () having a slot () whereby a digital card () may be inserted into the digital card connector assembly to communicate with an electronic device (). The digital card connector assembly includes a connector body (), a cable assembly (), and a radio frequency (RF) shield (). The connector body has a plurality of electrical contacts configured to make contact with a plurality of electrical contacts of the digital card when the digital card is inserted into the digital card connector assembly. The cable assembly has a plurality of electrical conductors () electrically connected to the plurality of electrical contacts of the connector body. The RF shield is affixed to the connector body and is configured to make electrical contact with the panel when the digital card connector assembly is mounted to the panel.

A card connector for use with a card comprising electronic circuitry and a card reader device comprising electronic circuitry which can communicate with the card. The card connector is configured to receive the card when the card is inserted into the card reader. The card connector has a connector body and an attached cover. The connector body includes a plurality of electronic contacts that engage the card circuitry and operationally link the card to the card reader device. The cover includes one or more retaining springs which engage the card to secure the card and draw heat from the card. The cover also has a lip or tongue and grounding tabs which provide electrostatic discharge protection.

An F-connector for a coaxial cable has a substantially flush, coplanar face comprising a first insulator, locking ring, and connector body with a swaged leading edge. Within the connector body a connecting lead is attached to and spans between the first insulator and a second insulator. The F-connector may be constructed by a process that permits front-loading of the connecting lead and insulators, or by a process that permits back-loading of the connecting lead and insulators, or by a process that permits partial back-loading and partial front-loading of the connecting lead and insulators.

A connector (), such as but not limited to a coaxial female F-connector, has an integral surge protector. The F-connector includes a connector body () with an extended center conductor lead (). Attached to the F-connector and substantially surrounding the lead is an inductor, such as a toroid core () having windings () thereon. In one configuration one end () of the windings is attached to the center conductor lead and the other end () is attached to an electrical ground. In another configuration that other end is attached to a circuit ground via a capacitor, a power supply, or a biasing circuit. The inductor serves to shunt a surge to ground. A series capacitor is connected between the center conductor lead and an input/output port on an electronic circuit, passes the desired signal, and further helps to prevent a surge from reaching the device.

Forming a plurality of loops in an optical fiber around a spool adjacent to an exposed end face can suppress internal reflections from the exposed end face. The radius of the loops can attenuate light that is propagating to and from the end face by causing light to leak out of the optical fiber's core and into its cladding. The radius can be selected to control physical stress in the optical fiber and promote reliability. The radius and the number of loops can be selected to meet a return loss specification. The loops can be formed by coiling the optical fiber around a spool that includes a slot for holding the optical fiber until it is put into service.

Reflection suppression for an optical fiber

A system and method removes heat from an enclosure or housing of a subscriber optical interface. When a subscriber optical interface housing is attached to a structure such that a partially enclosed volume of space remains between the structure and the subscriber optical interface housing, this partially enclosed volume of space can produce a chimney effect when heat from the subscriber optical interface housing is intended to flow from fins towards the structure. This chimney effect can refer to a fluid such as air within the partially enclosed space that is heated by the fins and that rises upward when the ambient or surrounding fluid is cooler relative to the heated fluid. According to another exemplary embodiment, the subscriber optical interface can be shaped to form an internal chimney structure that is entirely surrounded by a housing of the subscriber optical interface.

System and method for removing heat from a subscriber optical interface

An enclosure for facilitating and protecting splices or connections between communication transmission mediums can include a housing having a first port and a drop port. The first port can allow a distribution cable containing a transmission medium to enter the housing. The drop port can allow another transmission medium to enter the housing, and it can allow a transmission medium to be added or removed without disturbing existing transmission mediums or connections in the housing. A drop plug can be provided to seal the drop port. The enclosure can also include a cover plate having a gasket coupled to its perimeter and being removable with the cover plate. Strain relief for the transmission mediums entering the enclosure can also be provided. Two-stage strain relief and single-stage strain relief can be provided for the transmission mediums entering through the first port and the drop port, respectively.

A connector assembly for electrically coupling an external circuit to a printed circuit board comprises a printed circuit board secured to a housing. The housing has a threaded bore in one end wall and a connector having a threaded end is secured to the end wall via the bore. An electrode extending axially from the threaded end is positioned proximate an electroconductive circuit portion of the printed circuit board and solder electrically connects the electrode to the circuit portion. Fingers are circumferentially spaced about the connector proximate a second end thereof and are resiliently compressed within a cavity formed in a coupling when the connector is inserted into the coupling. An external circuit electrode axially extending within the cavity and electrically connected to the external circuit mates with a female conductor formed in the second end of the connector to complete the electrical connection between the printed circuit board and the external circuit.

A transceiver module support apparatus comprising a support tray received in a chassis. The tray is specially configured for receiving and supporting a plurality of modules with a front portion of the tray including cable routing and supporting features with curved contours of predetermined bending radii to prevent excessive bending or twisting of the cables. The guide portions have smooth contours with the desired bending radii extending in at least two directions to allow for different cable routing. The tray also includes integral structural features for mounting cooling fan units and interconnecting them.

Transceiver module support apparatus with fiber management features

An optical fiber retention device which is adapted to positively locate and retain one or more optical fibers while providing strain-relief. The optical fiber retention device includes a pair of resilient strip members which snap fit together to positively restrain the optical fibers between them. The strip members include a base strip having one or more generally U-shaped channels which support individual optical fibers in a common plane. The other strip member comprises a top member which includes two resilient keys which snap fit into resilient keyways in the base member. The top member has an elongated generally rectangular surface which retains the optical fibers in the channels for strain relief. The base member additionally includes a pair of resilient keys which snap fit into the keyways of other base members to allow the base member to be stacked on one another for tiers or racks of support channels and to allow mounting on a plate of a termination or branch box.
