A device for wrapping around a bodily organ and preventing overexpansion thereof. The device comprises inner and outer surfaces with a pliant material located therebetween. The inner surface defines a passage and accommodates and reinforces a bodily organ. The bodily organ, following surgical implantation, extends through the passage and is surrounded by the device. The inner surface, in an uncompressed/slightly compressed state, defines a normal state which supports the bodily organ and permits flow of bodily material therethrough. As the bodily organ expands, due to the bodily material flowing therethrough, the inner surface and the pliant material are compressed and, in turn, correspondingly exert a collapsing force, against the outer wall of the bodily organ, which limits and opposes the expansion of the bodily organ and forces the outer wall of the bodily organ back toward its normal state which still permits flow of bodily material through the bodily organ.

Device for preventing overexpansion of bodily organ

A device for treating urinary incontinence. The device comprising a body having a passage, for accommodating a urethra of a patient, extending from an inlet to an outlet of the device. The passage being configured so as to normally induce a flow obstruction in the urethra, following surgical implantation of the device. The flow obstruction, induced by the device, being sufficiently pliable and deformable so that once an internal system pressure within the urethra becomes sufficiently great, the internal system pressure overcomes the flow obstruction, induced by the device, and creates a flow passage through the device.

Device for the treatment of urinary incontinence

A jack handle comprising an elongate cylindrical shaft having a first end and an opposed second end. The first end of the shaft supports a drive adaptor which is shaped to engage with a drive head of an electric, a pneumatic, a ratchet or an impact drive drill. The second end of the shaft has a bent-shaft adaptorwhich is bent at an angle substantially perpendicularto the longitudinal axis of the shaft, or otherwise configured to transmit rotational drive to a desired jack. During use, the drive is inserted into a U-shaped jack actuator coupler. The drive adaptor end is inserted and secured to the drive head, and the drill or other drive device is operated in a conventional manner to rotate the jack handle in a chosen rotational direction to raise or lower the jack as desired.

Disclosed is a novel improved nasal mask useful for patients suffering from respiratory ailments such as sleep apnea syndrome. The mask includes a shell having a contoured portion circumscribing the nasal area and side wings through which a retention strap passes. A seal is disposed between the shell and the patient's face providing a large contact area to distribute retention forces and reduce facial pressure. Transmission of external loads to and torques induced in the shell are minimized by orienting inlets proximate side wings and supporting a supply conduit along the strap.

The present invention comprises a method and apparatus for the treatment of sleep apnea through the application of real-time, interactive positive airway pressure within the airway of a patient attached to the system. A single sensor is arranged in fluid communication with the airway of the air delivery conduit, and is designed to detect abnormal inspiratory flow to the patient's airway on a single breath basis. Output air pressure from the air source to the airway of the patient is continuously increased, instantaneously stopped, and slowly decreased in response to real-time changes in the patient's inspiratory flow curve detected and interpreted by this apparatus, thus providing the optimal pressure required to restore airway patency on each breath.

Device and method for the treatment of sleep apnea syndrome

An oxygen supply, hood for administering oxygen to a patient, departs from the enclosed masks and enlarged, open face shields, of the prior art by being formed as a unitary shell with a central dome, forming an open bottom, mixing chamber extending outwardly above the level of the mouth. The incoming oxygen forms a whirlpool, or vortex, within the chamber which mixes oxygen with moist exhaled air and permits the moist oxygen to also reach the mouth. The shell is firmly affixed by a recess over the bridge of the nose, by a strap across the upper lip and by a pair of integral wings, extending along the cheek bones to a band around the head. The gas delivery tube, within the mixing chamber extends under the nostrils, and along the upper lip of the patient. The gas discharge nozzles on the tube are directed only upwardly and outwardly, away from the nose and mouth, toward the inside face of the front wall of the shell.
