A method of treating a chronic wound may comprise applying to the wound a first scaffold comprising an electrospun polymer fiber. The electrospun fiber may comprise a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyglycolic acid, poly(lactide-co-caprolactone), polylactic acid, polycaprolactone, copolymers thereof, and combinations thereof. The first scaffold may have a thickness from about 50 &#x3bc;m to about 1 mm, a length from about 1 cm to about 20 cm, and a width from about 1 cm to about 15 cm. The method may further comprise keeping the first scaffold on the chronic wound for a time period of about 3 days to about 21 days. After the time period passes, the chronic wound may have a decreased planimetric area.

Methods of treating chronic wounds using electrospun fibers

This disclosure relates to dermal treatment compositions, such as dermal fillers and tissue glues, and injectable compositions that incorporate one or more cationic steroidal antimicrobials (CSAs). The CSAs are incorporated into the dermal treatment compositions to provide effective antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-swelling and/or tissue-healing properties. A treatment composition includes a component formed from a biologically compatible material suitable for injection into and/or application onto tissue at a treatment site. One or more CSA compounds are mixed with the biologically compatible material so that the one or more CSA compounds are incorporated within the composition, forming a reservoir of CSA compounds within the resulting bolus of the treatment composition after injection and/or application.

Cationic steroidal antibiotic compositions for the treatment of dermal tissue

A waste management system and method of use. The waste management system includes a waste transport device and a waste collection device. The waste transport device includes a generally tubular body, a distal end section configured for disposition and maintenance in a patient's rectum, and a proximal end section including a first connector biased in a sealed position. The waste collection device includes a second connector. The first connector is transitioned to an unsealed position when the first connector is secured to the second connector.

A securement device, system, and method for use with a medical article. The securement device, system, or method may include a body that has a top surface and a bottom surface. The bottom surface has an adhesive compound thereon. A resilient retainer formed from a soft, tacky elastomeric gel or foam is supported by the bottom surface of the body. The resilient retainer receives and secures a medical device. The medical device is secured to the skin of a patient upon affixing the bottom surface to the patient via the adhesive compound.

A composition may comprise a plurality of polymeric electrospun fiber fragments, and a carrier medium comprising an effective amount of chitosan. Such a composition may further include a plurality of polymeric electrospun fiber fragment clusters. A kit may comprise a first component of a plurality of polymeric electrospun fiber fragments, and a second component of a carrier medium comprising an effective amount of chitosan. A method of treatment may comprise injecting into a portion of a body a composition which may comprise a plurality of polymeric electrospun fiber fragments, and a carrier medium comprising an effective amount of chitosan. The treatment may be directed to one or more of joint inflammation, osteoarthritis, a tissue injury, a muscle tear, a ligament tear, a tendon tear, a void, incontinence, an aneurysm, and a tumor.

Chitosan-enhanced electrospun fiber compositions

A securement system for anchoring a medical article to a patient includes a pliant holding device. The device has a body and a plurality of tentacles extending from the body. The tentacles compress and may conform around at least a portion of the medical article to form a secure mount. The holding device may also cushion the medical article and protect the site of attachment on the patient while promoting air circulation. The holding device may include a support and a hinge so that the holding device may be swung away from the medical article to provide easy access for a medical provider.

Securement system for a medical article

A waste management system includes a waste transport device and a waste collection device. The waste transport device includes a collection member with a distal end opening having a first cross-sectional area and a proximal end opening having a second cross-sectional area less than the first cross-sectional area, a retention cuff disposed about an outer surface of the collection member, and a first section having a lumen in fluid communication with a lumen of the collection member.

The waste transport device includes a collection member, a retention cuff disposed about an outer surface of the collection member, a first connector, and a proximal end opening biased in a sealed position. The waste collection device includes a second connector and an opening biased in a sealed position. Securing the first connector to the second connector enables transitioning the proximal end opening of the waste transport device and the waste collection device opening to unsealed positions.

A gel pad for use with a retainer for securing a medical article. The gel pad is formed from a soft, tacky elastomer. A first surface of the gel pad is placed in contact with a patient's skin. A second surface that faces in an opposite direction away from the first surface receives the retainer. The retainer has a channel configured to retain at least a portion of the medical article. In some embodiments, a securement member is employed to affix the retainer relative to the patient. A securement system including the gel pad and retainer is further disclosed along with a method of securing a medical article to a patient.

Securement system employing polymeric gel

A medical article, such as a catheter, is formed from a blend of polyurethane and synthetic polyisoprene (SPIR). The blended medical article is preferably selected and prepared to be relatively rigid at room temperature and relatively flexible at body temperature. An intermittent catheter made from the blend provides a degree of stiffness for its insertion into the patient at room temperature. The catheter becomes softer, and therefore more comfortable, at warmer temperatures (e.g., body temperature) which reduce discomfort after insertion. Optionally, the catheter or a portion thereof can have a hydrophilic coating as to avoid the need for external lubricants. Advantageously, the blended catheter can meet the stiffness, tensile strength, and coefficient of friction requirements of intermittent catheterization applications while avoiding the risk of toxic or allergic reactions in sensitive users.

The waste transport device may include a modular medication delivery apparatus with a disposable delivery device for delivering medication to the patient following insertion of the waste transport device.
