A wireless local area network communication system for a vehicle to provide a voice and/or data connection from a wireless wide area network to a wireless local area network and on to a vehicle wired bus is disclosed. The communication system includes a wireless electronic communication device disposed in or in proximity to the vehicle for communication with the wireless wide area network, a wireless local area network unit disposed in the vehicle in such a manner as to communicate with the wireless electronic communication device and with a wired vehicle bus disposed within the vehicle, and a plurality of electronic devices disposed in or in proximity to the vehicle and in communication with the local area network unit or the wireless electronic communication device.

A voice-interactive docking station is provided for use with a portable computing device. The portable computing device includes at least one information management application and a corresponding database for storing the data associated with the information management application. The docking station generally includes a speech input device for receiving speech input, a speech recognizer for translating the speech input into voice command data, and an interface application for interacting with the applications residing on the portable computing device. In particular, the interface application, in response to voice command data, accesses the data associated with the information management application residing on the portable computing device. The docking station may further include a text-to-speech synthesizer for converting output data from the interface application into speech output data, and an audio system for generating audio output from the speech output data.

A visual display and helmet assembly is configured to function in the presence of a harsh environment, e.g., high wind, vibration and shock and strong ambient light. The visual display preferably includes a transmissive liquid-crystal display to reduce the display's size and to enhance the intensity of a virtual image. In addition, the display is preferably reconfigurable so that different display indicia can be programmed as desired. To reduce probability of injury to a user, the visual display is carried on the exterior of the helmet with its center of mass positioned substantially on the midsagittal plane of the user. In addition, a mount permits the visual display to detach from the helmet when it is subjected to forces above a predetermined threshold. The mount is also permits yielding movement between the visual display and the helmet to enhance viewing of the image.

This invention comprehends a multilevel electrically conductive interconnect for an integrated circuit wherein an inventive feature of the interconnect is the intermediate dual dielectric layer between the non-contacting portions of the surrounding metal conductors. The dual dielectric layer consists of a first dielectric layer and a second dielectric layer preferably formed from a polyimide material. The dual dielectric layer provides a significant improvement in defect density and a substantially planarized surface for the deposition of the top conductor, thereby improving the reliability and integrity of the electrical interconnection and integrated circuit.
