A pedestal console for a motor vehicle includes a housing stationarily mounted within the vehicle beneath and transverse to a bench seat of the vehicle. The console includes an air duct defined by structural features extending the length of the console. This allows air from a forward ventilation system to be provided, through the air duct, to an aft portion of the vehicle. The structural features extend between the bottom surface and the top surface of the console and are dimensioned to allow the console to accept passenger floor loads. To reduce cost and parts count, the entire console is formed of a one piece construction. Finally, an interior opening may be provided to route wiring of the vehicle's electrical system to the aft portion of the vehicle.

A structural member of the present invention includes a substrate having portions defining an inwardly extending channel and a blow molded member in contact with the substrate. The blow molded member has portions that engage the portions of the substrate that define the inwardly extending channel such that the blow molded member is secured to the substrate.

The present invention is generally directed towards a composite structural fluid handling duct in a motor vehicle. The composite structural fluid handling duct comprises a substrate defining an aperture and a blow molded member, wherein a portion of the blow molded member extends into the aperture to form a retaining member. A portion of the substrate forming the aperture is deformed such that the aperture has an inner dimension and an outer dimension. The composite structural fluid handling duct also has an inlet for allowing fluid to enter, and at least one outlet for exhausting fluid from the duct.

The present invention is generally directed towards a structural member formed from a sheet metal reinforced with blow-molded member. The sheet metal is in form of a channel with three sides. The blow-molded member has a first portion that contours the three sides of the channel and a second portion that is connected to the first portion to define a hollow interior. The sheet metal has a plurality of openings such that the blow-molded member forms a retention bulb around the openings.

A modular package tray for an automotive vehicle, comprising: a generally hollow, generally rectangular plastic housing 10 having an interior cavity 12, opposed upper and lower wall sections 14/15, opposed forward and rearward longitudinal edges 16/17, and opposed left and right lateral edges 18; and left and right wing sections 20 each attached to a respective one of the left and right lateral edges 18 by a living hinge 30 integrally molded with the plastic housing. Each of the wings 20 may be folded about its respective living hinge 30 in order to temporarily reduce the overall length of the package tray, thus permitting the package tray to be easily installed or removed through the rear window of the vehicle. The package tray may further include a center high mount stop light 60, in-molded carpet 40 generally covering the upper wall section 14, and one or more audio speaker assemblies 52.
