A contact lens package includes a holder having a receptacle for holding a contact lens and a cap having a seal for sealing a contact lens within the receptacle. The cap is attached to the holder and is movable from an end of the holder where the receptacle is formed toward an opposite end of the holder. As the cap moves toward the opposite end of the holder, the end of the holder where the receptacle is formed ruptures the seal such that the contact lens can be removed from the package.

An electro-analytical cartridge adapted for use in analyzing fluids. The cartridge includes an electrochemical device that measures ionic activity using ion-specific electrodes. The cartridge further includes a plumbing system composed of the electrochemical device and various wells or chambers which are interconnected by passageways. After introduction into the cartridge, liquid samples are measured out and transported to the electrochemical device utilizing a sequential application of centrifugal force followed by pressurization of the system. Reference fluid is transported from a reference fluid well or reservoir to the electrochemical device for use in measuring ionic activity. The cartridge may be used to measure the ionic activity of a wide variety of ions in fluids including bodily fluids.

Electrochemical analytical cartridge

An analytical cartridge adapted for use in analyzing fluids for spectrophotometry. The cartridge includes a plumbing system composed of the cuvette and various wells or chambers which are interconnected by passageways. After introduction into the cartridge, liquid samples are separated (if necessary) and transported to a cuvette utilizing a sequential application of centrifugal force followed by pressurization of the system. The cartridge may be used in a wide variety of spectrophotometric procedures to measure the concentration of a wide variety of constituents in fluids, including bodily fluids which contain liquid and solid components.

Spectrophotometric analytical cartridge

Heat sealing bars are spaced circumferentially around a rotatable drum and seal together two face-to-face strips of material as the strips are drawn continuously around the drum. The sealing bars are automatically moved radially inwardly and outwardly to change the circumferential distance between the bars and the effective diameter of the drum and thereby keep the bars in register with printed material on the strips.

Successive pouches severed from the leading end of a continuously moving strip of pouches are picked up by a series of spaced paddle assemblies and are turned from edgewise positions to broadwise positions. Each paddle assembly ducks into the pouch to pick up and turn the pouch and opens the pouch just prior to turning it to a broadwise position. Thereafter, the paddle assemblies release the pouches to carriers which advance the pouches through filling and closing stations. The carriers are more closely spaced than the paddle assemblies and are advanced at a slower rate than the paddle assemblies.

Sealing heads for heat sealing the tops of continouously movable upright pouches are spaced angularly around a continuously rotatable turret and seal the pouches after steam has been introduced into the pouches and as the pouches move in an arcuate path extending around the turret. Each sealing head includes a pair of heated sealing bars and further includes a cam-operated actuator which sequentially lowers the bars, closes the bars, opens the bars, and then raises the bars as the bars rotate with the turret.
